Saturday January 3rd 2008

Fulton College Prep
7504 Noble Ave
Van Nuys, CA 91405

Please take not of the following:

- Please print for reference, PDF with Schedule, Rules and directions to the tournament:

LARS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2008

- Print game cards and fill them out, I want to keep track of goal scorers and assists. I need one person in each team to be in charge or your group please send me PM.
- $150.00 per team if you don't show up you forfeit the money. If you want to give a little more to help get the HS kids new uniforms you are more than welcomed to.
- Maximum number of players per squad is 18.
- Bring two jerseys, in case your opponent is wearing the same color, home chooses jersey color.
- Games will start at the exact time listed and end exactly at the 25 minute mark. NO INJURY TIME.
- Games will be played rain or shine.
- At the first sign of any fight and the whole thing is off, we will shut down and everyone goes home.
- I realize there are a number of alcoholics in the group, but I cannot stress enough that NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED IN OR AROUND CAMPUS WHILE EVENT IS TAKING PLACE, stoners please do your thing before you get to the school or in between games at least a block away I can lose my job at the school or worse get arrested and if that happens and I wont be very happy. The school's Athletic Director will be coming by and checking up throughout the day.
- Refs are not getting paid, so don't be a jackass and respect the whistle.
- All of us have to work on Monday so please, try not to hurt anyone, slide tackling is probably not a good idea. BRING YOUR INSURANCE CARD in case someone does get hurt.
- I will have easy up's for every team and ice and water.
- I tried to get permission to have a BBQ while games were going but was denied, so instead I created the following maps with places to eat within a mile of the school.

LARS Champions League 2008 - Places to eat

- Section18hooligan made an executive decision and we will be going to the Fox & Hounds for drinks after the tourney, so I need a head count of who is going so I can give them a heads up.

Directions to the pub from the school are below.
Fox & Hound
11100 Ventura Blvd.
Studio City, CA 91604

Quite literally, all you have to do is show up with your squad and play......let the games begin.

I wanted to hand out medals and make sure shirts for all those participating, but at $150.00 a team it wont even cover the cost of buying the shirts, if all goes well maybe the next time we do this 2nd and 3rd place will get medals and shirts for everyone playing.

It takes time and money and most of us have very little of it....in any case I'd like to introduce you to the baddest mutha fuckas out side of THIS GUY:

Isn't though?

I can't tell if Gen Buck was serious or trying to volunteer for the position.

Having played with S&P a few times - I know that they don't have full size goals, and that they don't do corner kicks. That's great for developing field skills, but it sucks as far as practice for regulation games goes; especially developing keepers and practicing set pieces.

That's typical of a pickup game though: When B&G lost their field to the league and we had to go from a pick up game to 11 aside with referees - one guy who had been playing B&G for quite some time was told to go in as a substitute and play left midfield...

His deadpan response was "What's midfield?"

I thought he was joking, but after 5 minutes of watching him wander around the field aimlessly, I realized that he really had absolutely no idea that there was something between offense and defense.

It might be a good idea to substitute someone who can play keeper with someone who can't.

Edit: I can't.

I see that you have taken a page out of the LA Galaxy's play book from last year.

Wait - Wait!!!

Don't tell me...

You're going to compensate this apparent weakness by having someone delivering excellent service from the outside midfield to someone who can't score.

Brilliant!!!

Edit: In other news:

Id like for us to vote on a tournament MVP, Golden Boot winner, GK of the tourney and a Best X!.

The probability of me achieving any of those honors is only slightly above 0. So I'm going to create my own "Masters" category:

There's only 3 considerations:

1. Must be > 35 and throw your hat in the ring before Saturday.
2. Get to the pub in a timely manner after the game to discuss which one of us old farts had the best game.
3. Everyone who threw their hat in the ring, buys that guy a beer.
4. (Yes - I still know how to count) If there's no clear winner the oldest guy who played wins.

But Bill, you're forgetting that old skool B&G played in a 2-0-8 formation, so his question was a fair question.
