#1444643 2024 New York Red Bulls II Thread

one thing i liked from the game is not only on his goal but on Kasule goal too Hall does a good job of managing the tempo of his runs to get on the end of ground crosses.  BWP made a living doing that.  I used to think Hall was a winger long term, but growing into liking him more as a striker as he gets stronger.

when he gets his first goal the floodgates will open.  hes a smart player and looked better today with more pace around him (though Miami's slow defense helps too).  Rooting for him to figure it out consistently

there were a couple wasted Manoel/Morgan runs where I thought Frankie or Edelman couldnt get the ball out of his feet.  Manoel had one really good target man play where he used his body well shield and then turned it to a breakaway.  But the early shot he tried didnt work out.

I still like us better in a 4-2-2-2 but that may change if we start seeing how the right side works with a faster starter there.  Harper made some mistakes but was pretty dangerous in the set up and available for big switches once Emil pulled attention to the left side.

Listening to Sandro presser he wasn't too pleased with the attack in the second half because we lost control of the game.  Really refreshing to have a coach that when he talks it sounds like he watched the same game you did (unlike Struber)

FWIW, they are pushing opening day with live-read ads on WFAN.  Tiki will be at the game with "maybe some other celebrities."

i was happier when i misread this with tired eyes as Titi

Wow.. I had to watch most of the game on my phone and missed a lot of Vanzier's screw ups.    The guy can shoot, he can get a cross in, but he should not have the ball at his feet other than that if at all avoidable.

and there are a lot of players who make a living like that.  Its honestly so strange that for a team so focused on pressing/playing in transition we've recruited so many "meh" athlete attackers.  Unless you are a target man or effective running down the channels you can't really be a Red Bull forward.  At this point if i was sandro i'd be channeling him to work on his target man traits in the style of Manoel

Biggest lesson I've gained from Vanzeir is the Belgium league has a lot worse athletes than MLS because he looked quick on video and some scouting reports made it sound like he was quick also.

Honestly more than anyone Vanzeirs game would be helped the most by playing next to an explosive partner who can open up space for him to make late runs into the box with or without the ball.  Morgan for us still hasnt shown much of his creative ability and that will be an underrated storyline that will impact our season a lot.  Prior to playing with us had pretty good key passing numbers

Vanzeir's skied shot in 47' is the last straw for me. He's not gonna make it. Low soccer IQ to shoot first time instead of pass to Manoel + selfish + lacks quality to make up for the previous two.
.

Hes playing like a guy under a lot of personal pressure to score. Hopefully he can see one hit the net next week and calm down from that point.  If gjengaar is good his spot is in trouble so I get the stress he feels

i am really curious if Harper can go.  Would be ideal to have him and Morgan as attacking options, versus one of the kids needing to be in the mix

The passing network of Eile Tolkin Amaya and Forsberg on the left is going to be a big problem for teams shortly. Very encouraged.  Fingers crossed that Gjengaar is an Eile level surprise

I really enjoyed Sandro ball structurally and its good to see us play soccer again.  We need to get healthy so we have depth because wiki and Mitchell arent it.

The transfer fee happened to protect Liepzig and not to benefit new york.

UEFA recently issued a report that raised concerns about owners who own multi clubs. There is a concern that loans and transfers between sister clubs is a form of collusion and goes against fair play rules. There could be a crack down on this type of behavior so red bull was just covering themselves. The last thing they want is a transfer embargo. Girona's recent transfers has raised alarm bells at uefa about this behavior.

The Forsberg transfer is still a good move for rbny but the transfer is more of an accounting move to benefit Liepzig. Rbny is just being used.

RBL could have sold Forsberg to another club for more than we paid for him imo.  so while its money in and out of same global pocket, there was an opportunity cost lost there for sure.  This isnt like Damari being dumped on us, Forsberg would be useful and start for at least half of the German league

Per Instagram post, a 19 year old Norwegian is on the way.
So, the 'big investment' is a 20 y.o. Swede and a 19 y.o. Norwegian. [Yawn]

So investment wise we are at:
Eile: $1mn
Forsberg: $3.5mn
Gjengaar: $2mn
Duncan purchase option: $?

$5mn salary for Forsberg

On paper this is the most theyve spent in a while not saying we know if they spent it well or anything

As long as Harper doesnt qualify for free agency can let him compete and deal with him in offseason. But if they want to trade him I wouldnt shed a tear. But Id like to give him one more year.

Having useful domestic pieces in mls is important

This is where we stand atm from what I know. Assuming there will be some loans to clear out supplement roster so didnt list OConnor on there.  Only really have space for one outside of mls signing unless we have a sale. Cant really afford the gam needed to trade for a big player and cover their salary

only in MLS can a guy have offseason surgery, not play for first half of preseason and not a peep about it.  really want to see how he'd do under a new manager as an attacker
