#1383864 Long tears Achilles

Posted by sec201 on 18 May 2021 - 12:24 PM

Really feel terrible.
IIRC it took Beckham about a year (I was impressed Becks came back as he was older and had did almost everything but still wanted to come back).  I think it is very slow healing due to low blood flow in the area

Long might have a chance to grow out a impressive mullet in that time!!

Best of luck to ALo as impressive player on top of impressive person/path -

Lawrence Taylor also had this injury in his mid-30s..  He came back within less than 12 months to play one final season after the injury.

I was visiting LA and was at the HDC for the game in 2007  when Jesse took out Beckham.  Fond memories.

So he'll kick Beckham in the gut when he scores against Miami?

In.

The biggest compliment I can pay is that I really enjoy watching this team again.  (Now as a fan, I always watch regardless....but it hasnt always been enjoyable.)

#1383070 Mistakes of the offseason

Different article, but this one involves Liverpool, so I figured you might like it. How Data (and Some Breathtaking Soccer) Brought Liverpool to the Cusp of Glory - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Now, last season, for players over 600 mins, Barlow had far and away the highest xG per 90 of the team at 0.62xG/90 (actual 0.28 goals/90). For reference, White had .42xG/90 (actual 0.52 goals/90) and Royer had 0.28xG/90 (actual 0.27 goals/90):

2020 New York Red Bulls Stats | FBref.com

I think the analytics thing is bullshit in many ways, but there are people who get paid alot of money who would rather Barlow than White or Royer as he is in position for so many chances.

I mean look at this list of top xG/90: Player Comparison: Gyasi Zardes vs. Ayo Akinola vs. Tom Barlow vs. Diego Rossi vs. Valentín Castellanos vs. Raúl Ruidíaz | FBref.com

Actually pretty crazy.

This is surprising, but then again, it isnt.  Barlow had heaps of chances last year, but he couldnt even finish a sentence

#1382996 Fabio

Posted by sec201 on 02 May 2021 - 12:29 PM

for a 6'4 guy i think Fabio is pretty good on the ball.  If he was able to dribble well at that size with his speed he'd be in the prem lol.  He can chase a ball down, make good choices in final third but if he is taking more than 3 touches on the ball in a row things will get rough.

Hopefully the buy option isnt too high, Klimala should compliment him well

Yeah, fair point...he is a big dude.  He should come cheap, so hopefully well purchase him.   Think hes gonna be a fan favorite

Bring back "Clever" Hans Backe.

Never lost with the lead.

Tonight was disappointing, in a way.

I tried to get something from Harmon on Twitter (despite some hate - which I get, given there are about 5 of us on earth that care). He didn't know.

I didnt think much of his dismissive attitude....and I told him as much.

Klimala is a fairly accomplished youth international as well, 4 goals and 2 assists in the current Euro U21 qualifying

Also if his GFs follows on Instagram are any indication there might be some truth to the rumors. Some recent follows of NY (not RBNY related) accounts

Youre like Metros Bellingcat . . . well sleuthed!

If Kris Dyer says its not happening, its probably not happening

#1380100 Haksabanovic linked to Red Bull, apparently to us

Posted by sec201 on 05 March 2021 - 01:03 AM

He still goes by Jean Philippe Peguero. I worked game days for the club back when he was here and got close with him. His family goes by [First name] JeanPhilippe.
He actually just posted on Facebook a couple weeks ago.
"The name will never change #jpp"

But the real question is:  is it Salou Ibrahim or Ibrahim Salou?

#1379526 Stoke right back Tom Edwards

Posted by sec201 on 17 February 2021 - 03:18 PM

Duncan inability to use his left foot to the point he actively runs around it to clear with his right makes him a liability at leftback in anything but emergency use. Rather see egbo there than Duncan

Edwards had played a fair bit on the left as well, apparently.  Theres always a small chance he winds up there.

#1379318 Kaku got out

Posted by sec201 on 12 February 2021 - 02:21 PM

Exactly, which is kinda what I was saying.   I can't find the CBA language referenced.  If there are agreed upon rules between the parties for who is an agent and who isn't, then that would over-ride apparent authority, but without us seeing those rules, its all speculation.     If you reasonably represent yourself as an agent, then you are almost certainly on the hook for damages ensuing from you not actually being the agent.

Yeah.  And Im sure we will find out that this dude is  Kakus agent and had actual authority to act as such.  Kaku is thanking Pearson on Instagram for his new deal.

We keep blaming Kakus troubles on the conduct of his agents, but maybe the simple answer is that Kaku, despite his smiling demeanor, is an asshole.  He is after all the one calling the shots.

#1379307 Kaku got out

Posted by sec201 on 12 February 2021 - 12:36 PM

Before we blame Hamlett, under general principles of agency law, notice to the agent is deemed notice to the principal.  The article notes that the MLSPA said there is no indication that this guy Pearson was his agent.  But its more complicated than that.  He may still have had authority to act as Kakus agent, notwithstanding the fact that it doesnt appear that the proper paperwork was lodged with MLS designating him as such.  Theres a legal concept called apparent authority (you can Google to learn more about this).  If this guy had apparent authority, then notice to Pearson may be deemed notice to Kaku.  There are a whole host of other issues that could be at play, too, depending on the parties conduct and communications over the past year.  So, theres a lot more to this situation than meets the eye.

#1376326 Austin Expansion Draft

Posted by sec201 on 15 December 2020 - 12:54 PM

I know fans and GMs are an ocean apart but from how the rest of MLS fandom is talking, its clear Stroud is flying under the radar. Tarek and Meara are the only two names popping up as possible selections from the Red Bulls, and there's even some healthy debate whether Meara is even the best keeper available.

If I'm Austin, I'm probably taking Tarek. I'm a big fan of his, maybe lacks the consistency to be a top tier starting MLS CB but on a good day I think he's at that level.

.
Tarek also can provide coverage at fullback (admittedly not his best position).  If Im building a roster and looking at a player that may be a reserve, this is a plus.
