Only currently eligible that come to my mind:
Dane (only lock)
Mendes
Valencia
Magee
And I'm a little iffy on the last two.

Baseball not a good example for anything in sports, because baseball is not even a sport (it's a game).

Good question... Not sure Cahill is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Howard is one, of course, the second he retires. We probably want to avoid an empty class next year, so it would be among the likes of Mendes, Stammler, Jolley... Is Dane Richards still active?
It's your site, your rules. That being said, I would hesitate to take this attitude. I would really like it to be a true Hall of Fame instead of just a Hall of Very Good. Mendes and Stammler would be afterthoughts if this team didn't have an absolutely shit history with defenders. Jolley I'm 50/50 on. I can definitely buy Richards as an inductee, though. Ultimately, I'd prefer an empty year instead of diluting the pool.

agreed 100%. Jolley was a true Metro in the same vein as Petke (hard nosed defender, gave it his all). I would be ok with him. Dane i could go either way. The rest...definitely not.

Don't disagree. There is a reason Stammler/Mendes/Jolley are not in.
[edit]But I also like that each year we commemorate MF's anniversary with the Hall of Fame selection. So we'll see.[/edit]

Why not Jolley? He bleeds!
Mendes is still playing.
Stammler, I just don't see him in HOF.
Jamison Olave?

We all forgot Mendes is still playing, ha!
What about our longtime equipment manager? Or does he still count as active?

If Peguy Luyindula doesn't qualify then what are we even doing here

Just throwing this out there -- not saying it should be a determining factor:
Almost every player with >125 games played seems either a lock for or on the verge of MF HOF inclusion -
McCarty - 198 (lock)
Petke - 197
Robles - 182 (lock)
Richards - 176 (lock)
Wolyniec - 167
Mendes - 166 (bubble)
Stammler - 157 (bubble)
Wright-Phillips - 148 (lock)
Jolley - 147 (bubble)
Parke - 143
Magee - 142 (bubble)
Meola - 140
Miller - 140 (doubtful)
Henry - 135
Ramos - 131
Sam - 126 (hmm)
OTHER NOTABLES:
Guevara - 117
Leitch - 116 (anti-fullback bias)
Angel - 112
Mathis - 110
Villegas - 106 (nah)
Lindpere - 104
Felipe - 103 (TBD)
Lisi - 102 (THE COCKROACH)
Joseph - 102 (nah)
Kljestian - 100 (lock)
Howard - 97 (lock)
Lade - 97 (building the resume)
Savarese - 96
Gaven - 80 (should be seriously considered)
Cahill - 72 (bubble)
Ream - 65 (I'm hopeful for his return)
Valencia - 65 (bubble)
Olave - 63 (unlikely)
van den Bergh - 62
Luyindula - 60 (unlikely)
Donadoni - 55
Pope - 51 (unlikely)
Djorkaeff - 49

Fantastic analysis.
Sam seems likely at this point.
Luyindula is higher than unlikely, because it can be argued he is the most clutch player in team history.
Magee is doubtful, rest is pretty much spot on.
Collin has a case if he sticks around and doesn't get hurt, but it's obviously too early here.

Thanks! Funny -- Collin is the one player I originally included and then erased, only because his limited appearances (42 as of this writing), but he's definitely played himself into consideration.
