#1359009 This is going straight into dead horse territory

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 11 January 2020 - 08:12 PM

We accepted less for his sale in exchange for a portion of the transfer fee when he moves - presumably up to a Big 4 league for big money. An owner solely concerned about whats best for Metro might've played that differently. Maybe they would've kept him another half season to showcase him for a big summer transfer. Who knows. Hopefully we'll one day know what it's like for Metro to have gung-ho ownership!

Dude! I know this is going straight into dead horse territory but Metro is dead and has been dead for over 10 years. And it i am not wrong, it was such a clusterfuck. Some people on this board refer to the original club as if it was all roses.

As per Tyler, he has the potential to be so much better than Demme and should he be sold eventually, the monies should me higher and we should get a good cut out of it. If i recall correctly Tylers contract was up and he was not going to renew with us and could have walked out the door and we would had gotten zilch

#1358115 NYCFC is owned by slavers

Reyna ditching the slavers for Austin is hilarious on lots of levels.

Heard an interview where the whole situation was weird, a lot of it because his son Gio wanted to go play in Europe instead of staying with NYCFC academy.

So Claudio had to choose between a dad and support his sons decision or being a NYCFC director

Have been watching some RBL and RBS games and they do have very large squads of young players from all corners of the world. Names you have never heard off but performing well within the system. Maybe there is something to it

#1357874 Kemar Lawrence wants out

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 11 December 2019 - 08:08 PM

A couple of things:
1) "I have no sympathy" for a player overperforming his market value by 30-40% is mind-blowing to me. It happens and some people have that mindset, sure. I still find it odd. Maybe it's how you like your GM to do business, but no sympathy for someone being paid less than what they're contributing? Seems a little too cold-hearted to me, not to mention short-sighted (Taxi rioting isn't exactly the outcome you or Hamlett wanted, I'm guessing).

There is a reason players sign contracts with stipulations to be nth top payed player in the team to avoid these situations. Otherwise, and given how crazy the valuations of salaries have gone up, you are always going to find yourself being paid less that someone else.

Also, if you are going to give Taxi a new contract in the ballpark as Parker and Long, you are talking about 2.4M tied up in three players in a salary cap league. I mentioned in another post the craziness in MLS rules that TAM money cannot be used to buy down contracts of players like our two center backs, and that is an issue the players want addressed in the new CBA negotiations.

I read somewhere that they way TAM is allocated is something the players association wants to be part of this years negotiations. It is not consistent and young players like Taxi most times are not eligible to have their contracts bought down. It has mostly been used for young foreign players. That is also why the team could not use those funds on Long and Parker contracts

#1357027 Contract deadline day

Bigger teams with larger-than-life legendary players have also let them go unceremoniously. Long gone are the days where you kept legends around for sentimental reasons. Soccer is a business, and the moves for BWP and Robles make sense.

BWP is a legend, will always be a legend, but he was not producing anymore for the salary he was making plus the age factor.

Robles is also a legend, will always be a legend, but we have a cheaper option in Meara - let's not forget that he filled in fine when Luis went down with an injury - for a much lower salary. Besides, his distribution has always been better that Luis'.

What management does to build the roster is a completely different issue. There is not a good track record in that front.

#1356909 Royer targeted by LASK Linz?

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 18 November 2019 - 10:28 PM

If theyre gonna continue on with this we only sign guys who fit the system narrative then yes its time to sell.

It still drives me nuts the idiocy behind that mentality. You dont pass on signing a superstar because he doesnt press as well as a USL guy.

You pump as much talent as possible into the team and get a good coach to figure out how all the pieces work together.

Maybe you want to tell that to Valverde, Coutinho, and Griezmann

Just cancelled mine. Not really worth it for the number of games I make it, plus have not been able to sell or give away the tickets for the ones I could not make

#1339172 CM is our biggest issue

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 17 January 2019 - 08:49 AM

As naive as it sounds two positions I refuse to be worried about on this team until proven otherwise are CM and CB.  Our competitive advantage in the league is how effective we are in grooming them and picking them.  That's why no one should have an issue with the draft trade, and why we should pack the pitchforks until we have time to see what they see in our CMs.  Only CM concern I have is numbers if we don't sign a winger (because Valot would have to start there then).

Winger and forward is another story.  We haven't groomed a "very good " starter there yet (maybe Mines, Toure or Omir can change that).  I'd prefer if more the front office's resources are diverted to positions we have a tougher time filling internally or with prospects.  CM can't be our biggest concern because of this

Article in the Athletic about RBNY possibly looking for midfield reinforcements this transfer window. Armas mentions that CCJ is better offensively that Adams but does not cover the same ground, and Kofi is not ready yet but would be an option in the future

#1338786 Attendance again

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 07 January 2019 - 02:09 PM

To your point, one of the chief reasons that folks prefer stadiums that are conveniently located downtown, rather than out in the suburbs is the "things to do" factor before and after the game. The more bars and restaurants you have to visit and hang out at, the better the experience will be.

I have been to games in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, and Lima and it is a bit different. There is something to be said about supporter groups starting their walks to the stadium from different parts of town, gathering more people long the way and converging at the stadium en masse. You can easily walk a few miles just chanting and making all kinds of noise and people cheer you and cars honk their horns in approval. It is impressive seeing tens of thousands of fans arrive as a group, that is the tailgate party.

There are several options in MLS, but there has been ZERO chatter in weeks about RBNY making a move in this window. It's really unfortunate because we are likely one piece away.

Either a winger or a super sub striker.

If they are keeping their cards close to their vest I am all for it. No need to give away your plans.

I just hope that we are pleasantly surprised.

#1330326 Some of our players are not great at everything

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 25 July 2018 - 03:43 PM

He's consistently inconsistent in all aspects of his game, other than his work rate (excellent) and his finishing (poor).   We've seen him look fantastic with his first touch, or taking on defenders, or breaking up an attack, and we've seen him shit the bed.

I believe part of the issue is that as soon as he takes his second, third, and on touches, he lowers his head and does not look up. Not quite Dane maddening, but close

Neither does Royer.

Royer is like an 18-wheeler trying to turn from left to right...

#1304944 2017 Open Cup

Posted by Mynameisfutbol on 13 July 2017 - 09:18 PM

The best part about this game is the 'commentary' on these boards as the game is going on. I bet the team has a sign in their locker room that says: "suck it and stop whining MF bitches"

While the lineup might have been a head-scratcher, the guys got a result either by their efforts or a combination of the opponent ineptitude. Either way, as putrid as it was, we are through to the next round. Maybe we will take a page out of the Sounders' performance in last year's cup and win it all in the ugliest of fashions.

Cheers
