#1185962 Sunday: Don't be a 5:10 Motherf***ker

Posted by jamison on 20 October 2013 - 11:24 PM

Listen, it's the biggest home game in a decade. It should be sold out. There will be traffic. There will be lines. The PATH train will be busy. The security pat down will exist. It will take a while to get a beer from the concession line.

You, not some mystical force of the universe, but Y-O-U are in control of when you leave, when you get in, and the impact you make in the stands, wherever the hell you sit.

Let not Sunday be yet another day where you- fan of this team- walks into the stadium 30 minutes later than you intended, because of *silly reason x*. Let not Sunday be a day where you dawdle in during the 2nd minute, or the 20th, after one too many pints from the bar, or hung up at five guys ordering that good luck bag o fries.

You have a clock. You have a watch. You have other shit in your life, but that shit will be there on Saturday. And next weekend. And every day for the rest of your life.

What you have Sunday, is a chance. A chance that does not come around very often; It is the first chance we've had to do this at home in a decade. This team may change, your life may change. We could be back here Dec. 7, or never again.

But this is the best chance we've ever had at a trophy, and it is our chance to win our first one, which is something you can only do one time.

This Sunday YOU have chance to get into the stadium, and make a difference for your team winning a trophy.

Take that chance, and make the most of it. Make that game, that day, a priority from beginning to end.

Drive over an hour early. Take the earlier train. Get on the PATH at 2, not 4. Leave El Pastor at 4pm, not 4:45.

Please do whatever you have to do, to get your butt into your seat by 4:30. There will be pre-game stuff, sure. Anthems, sure. Whatever.

But, on this day, use your clock and your voice to pay this team back for 33 games of fighting for your honor.

Let them see a full stadium during warm ups, and know that you are there for THEM on Sunday.

Let them hear the noise in the tunnel, and let them FEEL your desire, to fight and take what is ours.

Get in there early and be a fucking PART of it, from BEGINNING to end, no matter what happens. We owe them that. We owe Mike Petke that.

Don't be late with a really great story about how it wasn't your fault. It is.

Get Stuck In. Not at 5:05, but fucking early.

#1271627 A note from Mike Vallo's family

Posted by RonVallo on 09 November 2015 - 03:20 PM

I opened the Red Bull home page yesterday and was floored to see the picture of your tribute to Mike at the top of the page. What a wonderful tribute (made even nicer by that 90th minute goal). So caring of all of you and Red Bull (for posting it so prominently). I can't tell you how much it means to our family.

I was just made aware of this forum this morning and just spent a tearful 30 minutes reading all the comments. Thanks to all.

Thanks also for making Mike's sister, brother and friends feel so welcomed at the game yesterday. My wife and I wanted so much to attend but with the roller coaster ride we have been on the past week we felt we needed the day to just be alone to miss Mikey privately together-just the two of us. I hope you understand.

We met many of you at the wake Friday and know many were at the farewell service Saturday. We know others of you would have liked to have been there.

The Metros (as he preferred to refer to them) and the supporters groups were so important to Mike. It's easy to see why.

Ron Vallo

This idiotic selection of Gerrard and Lampard, taking two spots away from deserving players, reminds me of back in 2010, when Garber wanted to include Titi.

Titi declined, because he felt it wasn't fair.

Titi is the best.

#1276866 We Have a New Fan

Posted by tariq13 on 14 March 2016 - 04:38 PM

I was coming back from work in PA today, heading north on the NJ Turnpike and stopped at a rest area to get a coffee. I ran into Jason Kreis. I was the only person to recognize him. I told him I thought he was a great coach and he says "My previous employer didn't think so." I laughed and said "Yeah, to be honest I'm a Red Bulls fan and still thought you were a great coach." He didn't skip a beat and said "I'm a Red Bulls fan now too." Great moment. Just thought I'd share with fellow fans about our new fan Jason Kreis.

#1187316 I gave Thierry Henry my last Metro scarf

Posted by NittanyMetros on 27 October 2013 - 08:32 PM

And don't regret it at all.  The man hoisted the shield with Red and Black on his arm as he damn well should have.  He learned, understood, and respected the history of this club.  Best of all, he WANTED to learn about the history of this team. One of the greatest footballers of this generation wore the colors of Metro on his arm every single match this season.  He deserved to have a true piece of Metro memorabilia, and I'm proud that he celebrated with that scarf on his arm.

His strike changed the tone of this match.  Make no doubt about it, the man is a Metro legend.

#1185781 Sunday - A Call to Arms

Posted by NittanyMetros on 20 October 2013 - 05:05 PM

This is the single biggest league home match that this club has ever played.  We have never been at the top of the league this late in the season.  We haven't had a final - that's how I'm viewing this - at home since 2003.  On that day 4,000 brave souls showed up and left heartbroken as the fucking Fire beat us at home, 1-0.  I left that match in tears.  On Sunday, we will have our chance at revenge.  We have our chance to take back what Chicago stole from us on that day...our first trophy.  In a way, it's poetic to see this club get Chicago at home for the shield.  10 years later, it has almost come full circle.  Make no mistake about it, this is the biggest match most of this fan base has ever seen.

As a fan of this club it is your duty to make our home field as intimidating, loud, and full as possible.   The days of South Ward bickering are over on Sunday.  It's not for fun anymore, it's business.  You are in your seat a full half hour before kick-off.  You are in Sean Johnson's head before he steps on the pitch.  Petke expects it, and we have to deliver.  This is the day our fanbase shows what they are truly made of.

Soy del Metro.

#1238763 I Hope Mike Petke's Voice Is Ingrained In Your Head

Posted by thoward18 on 12 January 2015 - 09:21 PM

I hope every time Curtis announces a new signing.... every time RBNY wins a game... every time you're thinking of buying a new jersey...

I hope every fucking time that happens, the voice of a dejected Mike Petke holding back tears is at full volume in your conscience. And I hope you don't let those things trivialize what Ali Curtis and the Red Bull hacks did to him and this franchise. Stop getting distracted by the new shiny toys and whatever else and focus on what truly matters here. They just took a massive dump on the identity and history of this team and are now trying to shove Febreeze into your nostrils to pretend the stink doesn't exist.

It shouldn't matter what players Curtis brings in or how many games he wins. See the forest for the trees.

#1280813 Isn't it nice how many players we have who truly love the team and fans?

Posted by sabremike on 29 May 2016 - 04:57 PM

Anyone who can disparage Henry (who is only the greatest player in the history of the league and it's not even close) must've inherited Rob Ford's crack stash. I remember his last year where it was literally comedy to see how many golden chances he would create out of nothing every game. We were privileged to have had the chance to see him play for our club.

#1237623 Town Hall meeting with Curtis, Marsch, and de Grandpre

Posted by thoward18 on 08 January 2015 - 06:56 PM

PLEASE THINK CRITICALLY:

They're not going to waltz in there and speak off-the-cuff. You can be damn sure their message is going to be carefully premeditated and crafted by a team of PR executives. Do NOT let yourself get trapped with their gaslighting and spinning of the situation. Don't drink the Red Bull-infused koolaid they're going to try to sell you.

At the same time, do NOT come off as some drunk idiot ranting. Be very clear in your message, and be very critical and unforgiving. But save the, "fuck you Curtis you fucker" and such to the message boards. Nobody's going to take you seriously if you sound like a rambling child throwing a tantrum. Make it clear that what they did is utterly embarrassing and irreparably unforgiving. But say so in a way that they have no choice but to take the message seriously.

As someone who A) didn't care for the previous owners and B) likes the Red Bull product and brand, I agree 100%, especially in a market like NYC.   I can understand small market clubs having modest ambition, taking a moneyball approach.  Not here.

To rename a team after your company, kit the players out in your corporate logo, cross-promote the shit out of the drink and other "active lifestyle" interests that have nothing to do with soccer, and THEN run the team on the cheap takes a lot of fucking nerve.

If we're gonna be run on the cheap, at least give us a respectable fucking name and look, assholes.

Red Bull Out.
