#1344512 Thierry Henry linked to RB coaching role

Posted by Komba on 17 April 2019 - 09:20 AM

Don't see this being realistic.

I love Henry, but a lot of the great players in sports history have not translated well to coaching.

Plus, the biggest reason is that this whole red bull thing is built off the system, and I don't see Henry coming in to be a student of the system.

I don't get focusing on outside back... At all.   It's also not good cap management to pay a backup significant money when you have a guy like Taxi making big money.  Plus two other CB's on the back line.

You aren't going to do much better than Murillo and Duncan at RB.  I don't think there are any other RB tandems I'd take in the league and I'm not even a big fan of Murillo defensively.

If the issue is that you think MLS has passed Lade by, then fine.  Maybe that's the case but having Lade as a backup LB isn't the worst thing in the world.

The team has far bigger issues and LB isn't one.  BWP is a huge issue.  Kaku is a huge issue. And Armas is a huge issue.

#1344320 Kaku benched, his feelings hurt

Once he made it clear that he wanted out, we should have sold him.  Otherwise you get this...he at least played hard but he acting childish constantly.

I'd be on board with a switch back to that.

Was a fan of that formation and now we really have the horses to do better with it.

-------------BWP------

----Royer-Kaku-Muyl

Duncan---CCJ----Murillo

-----Taxi---Long--Parker

Puts Royer in a better spot, doesn't put as much defensive pressure on Murillo which is a good thing because he doesn't seem particularly interested in defense sometimes.  Can rotate between CCJ, Rza, and Davis for that middle spot.   Kaku has more freedom to roam.

Hard to have an opinion on players when so many guys look bad.

Good speed, works hard, seems pretty athletic.  Not quite ready for prime time though.

Overall I see a number 9 similar to BWP.  Focused on goal, not great vision with the ball but then again, most kids don't have great vision yet.

What?

The window as in for this team to go all the way. BWP, Robles and the defense probably aren't going to be around much longer.

There is something to be said about that window but really, it only applies to BWP.

The defense (the important 3 pieces anyway) should be in their prime for a few more years.

The window with BWP is very likely closing after this season.  You have to figure that's why they brought in the kid.

As for coach, I don't like the things I've seen from Armas at all but they have to give him until the summer.  Outside of the team losing every game anyway.

MF and Koko hit the nail on the head... Marsch had some not so great moments but the team didn’t consistently look bad, especially at home.  And when those bad moments happened, it always seemed like the ball just wasn’t finding the net.  Nowadays we don’t create chances.  Armas doesn’t seem to understand the premise that the system is what creates the chances. When this many players are underperforming, it’s always coaching.  Unfortunately I’m a fan of a lot of bad teams and bad coaching sticks out way too much.  Biggest reason I fought so hard when people would try to slight Marsch.  Wish he decided that he hated Germany and came back.  Guaranteed that we’d be back to being one of the best teams in the league.

I'm willing to try anything as far as formations go.  I don't think a lot of formations will work for us because Kaku and Royer don't exactly cover a lot of ground but we're at a point where things are concerning.  We've had slow starts in other seasons but we still looked pretty good, just some unfortunate issues.  Right now we don't look good.  We generate no chances during a game.

I'm also curious why BWP is so often out of his usual areas.  He's always been so good at playing between the centerbacks but lately he's drifting everywhere.  It doesn't suit his game. His one superior trait is finishing and being able to get on the end of those final balls and he's not in those areas nearly as much as usual.  Outside of last year with the assists, he's never been a great passer so I think it's important that he's mainly doing what he does best.

I'd really like to see Jorgenson get a start up top with him, but I just don't know if Kaku and Royer can operate in so much space.  Those two outside mid spots are the most important in that formation and I'm not sure they are the type of players for it.  I think it will suit Kaku offensively but I think it's the worst spot for Royer.  THe more I watch Royer the more I actually wonder about him playing more centrally.  Not necessarily in Kaku's spot, but Royer has proven to be a good finisher and he has a bomb of a shot that he's willing to take.

This idea that people have figured out the system is a joke in my opinion.  Everyone knew what we were doing for years.

I think we just stink right now.  There are bigger problems and I'm a believer that we are being too deliberate when we get the ball.  We don't have the talent to play a half-court game, It's gotta be on the break or we are dead.

Between Rza and Davis, I would take Davis off the field.  From what I've seen of CCJ, he's more of a Dax type in that he's very stay at home and a good ball winner.   Rza (even though he tries those incredibly stupid lofty passes constantly) is better on the ball than Davis so I'd rather him out there.  Just not crazy at all with how Davis has been playing.

Issue is still that we generate NO chances.  We've had enough possession where we should be doing that and we're not.  Kaku has been bad and BWP not great.  Those two have to be our best players and they haven't been.

And I love Adams but people pointing towards him leaving as the reason this is happening is just something I disagree with.  He was a very good player for us but he was not irreplaceable.  Some people tried to describe many players we lost over the last few years as irreplaceable and they were far from it as well.

Gave up one goal against OC and an OG vs. Fire.
Defense has been chaotic, but I do not see us conceding a bunch to MNOPQRS. The failure of the offense to click is more troubling. Seeing BWP near midfield while behind is baffling to me.

This... Don't know why some are focusing big time on defense when we generate so few chances and still manage to give up few goals.  The issue is the front 4.

Try something new?  We're great in the regular season.  Don't try something new because it's not going to get better than it is.  Hell, no team in the history of the league did it better than we did last year.

The time to try something new is maybe playoffs.  Or at the very end of the regular season moving towards the playoffs.

Exactly...  It’s just unreasonable and I guess thinking that us not having Taxi is the reason why we got crushed vs Atl.

We ran into a simply better, more talented team.   We could beat them maybe one out of 10 times, no matter what substitutions were made.

This. I don't know how anyone could watch those two games and not come away with this opinion.

They said during the game against CBus that he participated in his first practice with the team the other day.

All is good with that. Just hoping he's a really good player.
