Going back awhile, we had a very successful acting coach that didn't get the permanent job. I always wondered how he would have done as the coach. I'm referring to Richie (ABMOD) Williams. He is now a Rev asst coach under Arena and has coached the U-17 team.

was here when Des was GK coach, too. not sure that the org would consider him or any other coach from that era.

No.

Have we forgotten that Petke wouldn't sub ppl on and would thus drive players into the ground? Marsch drove players into the ground, too, and he even had a reserve team and an entire developmental pyramid to lean on.

Petke is not being given enough credit what what he's done here. He came even closer to making MLS Cup than March did against NE on the road, won first ever trophy (Supporter's Shield) and then got fired after just two seasons. His stint at RSL was pretty decent as well, going to Conf SF last year, which I feel was over-achievement given lack of roster quality. This year they were also on the way to make play-offs with him at the helm, and he got fired for underestimating politically correct reality we are in, not for poor coaching. If the Metro does let go of Armas, this is the opportunity to get a quality HC who already proved he can be quite successful with the club. I highly doubt there is going to be anyone better available.

Bob isnt close to being the most successful Yanks manager overseas. That honor would go to current Schalke manager, David Wagner.

I think there's a definite chance Marsch surpasses Wagner.  In a few years, you could see Munich poaching Nagelsmann and Jesse getting the RBL job.  And, RBL has been better than Schalke the last few years...

Back on topic, Woly has a difficult job in juggling player development with winning matches.  He's been pretty successful at both, and I'd like to see him get a shot here finishing out the year.  Continuity should be easy, since he will, obviously, play the same system AND a lot of players on this squad have already been coached by him.

I don't give a damn what's best for Jessie Marsch, I'm a Metro fan not a Marsch fan. He and red bull screwed the team by rushing/delaying the move by a half season. And it spoke to exactly how minor league RB views this team.

Who cares how the other FC Soda clubs do?

Maybe its just the hate, but according to the MF poll, more people would want Chris Armas out than retain him in the unlikely event we win MLS cup... lol

I looked at the choice as a process vs. result decision. I think the larger sample size of coaching decisions are worth more than a four game winning streak.

That's not what is says.  17% would keep him either way, and another 41% would keep him if he wins the cup.   If he wins the cup a majority of 58% would keep him, which is still pretty damning that 42% would dump him after bringing home the holy grail.

It really should be Woly next...with Sekagya assuming the head job with RB2. Knows the system, knows the players, and has had a lot of success. Maybe the club gets lucky and Woly manages a mostly homegrown club to a surprise MLS Cup.  RB Global is not going to be splashing cash in transfer windows to bring in experienced difference makers. We are a development club for RBL and will likely see more Jorgensen type signings...projects for development first at RB2, and then, hopefully, a year or two with the first team before being sold to RBL.  The club has been pretty explicit, as evidenced by their transfer window machinations the past two years.

not so sure about Woly with the 1st team:

his gameday 18 is usually better skill-wise than the other 35 teams in USL-C. his gameday 18's salaries are prob equal to or better than most of the other teams in USL-C. Woly has better weapons at the USL-C level against that comp, than he would with the 1st team (~23rd in salary).

if Woly was to coach the 1st team, he wouldn't have the luxury of bringing in players from a team "above him" to supplement the roster he had on any given gameday. with RB2, he can get whoever he wants coupled with who is contractually bound to the reserve team, WHENEVER he wants. can't do that at the MLS level.

i think Woly knows a good gig when he sees it. gets to stay local, prob never wants to leave. that's fine by me, tbph.

Thank you. This is exactly what I think of whenever I read the countless "Woly for coach" posts. You think Armas is bad...wait till we see Woly with the 1st team.

Someone like TH14 would be intriguing. Doubt we can afford him.

I'm very doubtful that TH14 will ever be a successful club first team or national team manager. He has to get another shot to prove me wrong.  Oftentimes, in any sport, the greatest players do not make the greatest managers. It's very hard for them to translate what they could do on the field, through superior instinct, work ethic, and God given talent, to how they want their players to perform. Henry's pedigree so far: Arsenal Youth, Belgium second assistant, and Monaco (ouch!). Yes, TH14 would be intriguing. It could also be an unmitigated disaster. I can see him totally chafing under the RB 'system.'

yeah, not sure what Henry brings as a coach. if anything, hope he'd be hired to be solely a liaison to higher end players and convince them to come to MLS despite them having to:

a) endure long travel for league matches

b) fly coach while doing so

c) press during an American summer [in the Northeast], not European fall/spring

d) press some more

e) be coached by a guy who is probably on his 1st or 2nd pro HC job

or basically...hire a scout who can sell playing for this team to players that aren't reclamation projects or young prospects.

Its naive to think that we will hire anyway who doesnt fit or buy in to the RBG style of play.

Maybe its a young coach affiliated with Salzburg or Leipzig or someone previously underneath the umbrella.

so basically a RBS RBL 1st team assistant who prob doesn't have much 1st div head coaching experience? those guys aren't expensive, the Teutonic version of Petke (1st gig) Marsch (2nd gig) and Armas (1st gig)? But if the team were to hire a former RB assistant who hasn't had much HC experience, how are things gonna be different with a newly ordained inexperience HC making rookie coaching mistakes/decisions?

would just be same guy with a different accent, with either more or less arms waving while talking.
