Tyler plays 3 maybe 4 positions. My point is that one DP would not keep a player like him on the bench.

If he was stuck on the bench it because were fielding a super team week in week out.

Right, If they think (which might be the problem) they have a special player or two that are going need minutes in the next year or so, just don't sign DPs in those spots.  We start with 11 on the pitch, you could still have 8 HGs playing with 3 DPs.

which got us nothing for the first 16 years? 1996-2012.
2013 with the over the hill stars was great and then the young teams since then who brought us more than those stars.

Hmm Barlow, Sean Davis and Alex Muyl.

Or

Henry, Cahill, Marquez (bum).

You take the pick?

I'll go with the more successful group in MLS Sean and Alex.  :-)

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

His analogy has the wrong era of MLS DP signings.

Would you rather have Davis and Muyl, or Almiron and Martinez?

what a shame that there isn't a team somewhere on the planet that employs the press, has academy players in the 18, and brings in top end talent. all the while winning their respective league AND continental tournament.

Individual examples can be listed all day and it still does not prove a point. There are examples of great players and poor players on both sides of the spectrum. There needs to be a balance of both, its not a one or the other strategy. The club needs to invest in DPs (which they no longer do) and create a rich pipeline of homegrown talent (remains to be seen).

Is Thelwell even here?  The US government has basically shut down the issuance of visas for months.

Major League Soccer ... revised 2020 transfer window ...
Two-day transfer window: Mon., July 6 Tues., July 7

Here they come! 3 DPs, ready to play on July 11th!
If they can get visas & avoid quarantine ...
Edit: next posts say no DPs can be signed! 😱

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

No TAM/DP player signings during the 2 day window, so we are looking at having to wait until after the tournament to see any real activity, for the rest of the league not RBNY of course.

AFAIK players can still be signed outside of the window just have to wait until August 12th to be eligible to play.

Honestly, good. The Championship and League One are exactly where we should be looking. Those leagues are cutthroat with so much at stake and managers on short leashes, meaning that they often don't have time to deal with a 20-year-old's learning curve when there's a 29-year-old Championship lifer at the same position who knows his way around a relegation battle. Players in those leagues tend to be on short contracts which mean they're easier to scoop up cheaply on transfers and as free agents.

It's also a petri dish for the exact types of players who fit the system. You get a ton of athletic guys who maybe lack the quality needed to reach the next level. Perfect for pressing at the MLS level.

Now, like anywhere else you get what you pay for. So if the overlords are going to cheap out then it doesn't matter whether we're scouting Bayern Munich or a high school team in Kuwait. But if they're willing to spend a bit then there's an embarrassment of talent to be had in the lower tiers of England.
