#1359543 Brought back Sims

"Closing in."  We've been closing in for 5 months.  Let me know when it's actually done.

#1359265 RBG strategy/philosophy for NY

Posted by RedBullScouse on 16 January 2020 - 11:21 AM

Red Bull spends approximately 30% of it's total budget every year on marketing, and from out of that they pay for their F1 teams, soccer, extreme sports, etc. It's literally just an opex for marketing from an accounting perspective.

So whats the value of RBNY relative to a 15 year marketing campaign in the NYC metro area? I dunno, but prolly not too bad.

Then on top of that, there's prolly some hope we're a long term investment if MLS ever becomes a top league or is at least bigger than it currently is. They can't buy their way into the EPL, but maybe MLS will be as big in 50 years, who knows. But for them, thats just the potential cherry on top as they are getting decent value from us as a marketing mechanism.

They absolutely can buy their way into the EPL, they just haven't prioritized it.   They would run into naming issues, of course, but that's a separate matter.

#1359261 Ticketmaster Ticket Tech (Rotating Barcodes) @ RBA

Posted by RedBullScouse on 16 January 2020 - 11:07 AM

How does this make it easier for fans?

It doesn't.  Its a complete pain in the ass, especially when the wifi/internet connectivity at the gate sucks, which it always does.   I got in the habit of taking a screen shot of all my tickets for that exact reason.    SO much easier to forward a screen shot to whoever is with me than to make them get the app and deal with all that.   Was there really a problem with duplicate tickets being used?    Doubt it.

#1359107 Mathias Jorgensen incoming

Posted by RedBullScouse on 13 January 2020 - 05:24 PM

hope it's a translation error, not a good look, imo.

Jorgen$en, indeed.

I would want every ambitious kid to say that they hope and expect to play for the first team.   I didn't get any sense of "or else I quit" or blaming anyone.

#1359073 Bobby Edwards from the Northern Irish second division

Posted by RedBullScouse on 13 January 2020 - 11:32 AM

Again: Wasn't the ENTIRE point of getting rid of one of the better goalies in the league because we were handing the keys over to Mera? If so why the hell are we focusing on getting freaking goalies when the rest of our roster is well below the league average and a solid candidate to end up in the league basement?

No, that wasn't the point.  The point was he was old and expensive.  O+E doesn't fit in the RB system.  Having Meara just made the decision easier.

#1359005 Anderlecht goalkeeper Thomas Didillon

I've got no problem spending money on a GK, because I remember the revolving door of shit we had before Robles.  I only have a problem spending money on a GK if it is the only money we spend, and I'm surprised they would think that little of Meara,

#1358917 Red Bull opts out of MLS retro gear merchandise launch

Posted by RedBullScouse on 10 January 2020 - 07:29 AM

So these motherfucks who purchase a team years ago refuse to recognize history of the club.  Fuck red bull!  :)+

ummm....   I thought this was all put to rest with how well they handled the 20 for 20 thing, and a bunch of other stuff, like the duel metro/RB STH scarf

#1358800 2020 "Super"Draft Thread

Posted by RedBullScouse on 09 January 2020 - 10:36 AM

I used to love these things...  took my 12 year old out of school to go to the Philly one 10 years ago, with all the great OG Philly chants, and Sweep -The-Leg-Tchani coming over to hang out with us...  perhaps my best parenting move ever.

When does the transfer window end?

For us, it's over before it starts.  But for the rest of the league:

  • Primary Transfer Window: Wed., February 12 – Tues., May 5, 2020
  • Roster Compliance: Fri., February 28
  • Secondary Transfer Window: Tues., July 7 – Wed., Aug. 5, 2020

#1358627 New 2020 RBNY Jersey - Black?

Posted by RedBullScouse on 06 January 2020 - 12:06 PM

I don't like how it seems to be a league mandate that every club needs to have their primary kit be whatever color they want and then the secondary kit has to be white....

We just went full season without a white jersey.

#1358550 Who the hell is David Archibald?

the writer's an ATL fan, did you expect an unbiased unfunny article?

No, I expected a professionally written one.

#1358348 Matty Ice was a HUGE swing and a miss

Absolutely delusional rationalization , and you apparently never watched him play.    Matty Ice may someday turn into something, but he so far has been an absolute failure by any standard.

#1358318 Matty Ice was a HUGE swing and a miss

Posted by RedBullScouse on 28 December 2019 - 01:16 PM

Do we have a track record of failed international signings of players that age and price tag? Jorgensen is one. Is that it? That's what we're going to base this off of? Would signing Barcelona defenders be a shitty idea since we have a "bad track record" of that, AKA one failed attempt?

Please enlighten me as to the similarities between Jorgensen and this guy that go beyond "young guy who didn't crack the senior team yet."

I completely understand the import of tiny sample size.   That said, Matty Ice was a HUGE swing and a miss.    They fully expected him to be playing most of last season on the senior squad, and he never proved himself a real starter on the reserves.  What have you seen from this group that gives you any confidence in their ability to find a difference-maker at that age and budget?   I have very little confidence in their ability to find a difference maker at any age or budget, but at least the magic invisible hand of the market will give you some idea that a more proven, higher-priced guy will be a more-proven, higher priced guy.

#1358317 First offseason rumor: Insaurralde

Posted by RedBullScouse on 28 December 2019 - 01:08 PM

The club doesn't need any more projects right now.

They need an Ibrahimovic/Vela/Ruidiaz/Bou/Pozuelo-type signing who can start banging in goals fairly quickly after joining.

Sadly, after what Ham Sandwich has done to the academy, we probably can use a few projects.     That is entirely independent of us having a greater need for immediate impact players.

#1358302 First offseason rumor: Insaurralde

Posted by RedBullScouse on 27 December 2019 - 07:16 PM

Based on what? You looked at his international caps and games played and decided that's enough information? Like, what the fuck is that?

What is Jorgensen's resume, exactly? Numerous youth caps and a few spells for a decent senior team? Do you know how many players around the world, past and present, that more or less describes? Some of them grew into starters for Champions League clubs and some of them wouldn't start for a USL club. Kevin de Bruyne was also a 19-year-old who had some youth caps and a only a few games for Genk. Would he have been a bad signing? Please give me specifics on how and why Insaurralde's resume is closer to Jorgensen's than it is de Bruyne's.

obviously, everyone was no one at some point, but at 19 De Bruyne was a regular starter on the Belgian league champions.  But we have no track record of succesful international signings of players that age and price tag.
