Anyone with a brain knew it wasn't ALL Armas, but he was a problem and the only solution to that is to move on.

Definitely.

I can't wait to see what Thelwell does in the offseason, esp if that U22 rule happens. Won't have to worry about Hermann Trophy finalists being the only U22 guys brought into the team next yr.

RIP Guillermo Romulo, Alexander Francis Orig, Celenio Eleazar, and my Mom, Resurreccion Eleazar.

RIP Cesar Castello, Mike Vallo, Glenn Stampiglia, Bob Paquette, and Warren Lee

Whats the deal with the proposed U22 rule? 3 more DPs that are under 22?

i've heard it talked about on twitter the most, but it's still being worked out so they can role it out for the '21 season. I guess it could be similar to the Young DP rule, in that if you spend X amt of dollars on a guy, his cap hit would be significantly lower. e.g., when Kaku first got here, he was 23yo. Since the Young DP rule is for 23yo guys or younger, Kaku's cap hit for the '18 season was just only $200k.

Thanks for explanation. That could be very exciting - seems tailor fit for RB's youth only rule. Heard something about the removal of academy territories as well, not sure if that happened.

I can imagine a real talent pipeline where 16-20 yo across US (and Central/South America) pick RBNY over other options. They stay for a couple years while being scouted by two champions league teams that play same style (Salzburg/Liepzig) then head over to Europe.

Academy territories have been removed but anyone who was in an academy prior to the change is grandfathered into the old system. That's why we're having trouble signing Caden Clark to a first team contract, Minnesota has his rights and is squeezing us for them even though they literally don't even have an academy anymore.

I love your second point by the way and wish more people would realize the benefits to having a direct pipeline to Champions League teams instead of immediately defaulting to "we're a farm team for the evil Red Bull empire".

This is not true the rule still very much exists. It never applied to academies only for signing to mls

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

No worries a lot of people were confused by this because mls clarified this in its rules for academies but it was specific to academies and just never had to be clarified because mls didnt control the league

Maybe I am misunderstanding (likely) but isnt that almost the same thing? Why would you have someone in your academy that could never move to first team?

Has there been some change with territories?

Edit: I guess I am trying to ask, and to keep it more on topic, is there an obstacle to RB bringing in young dudes from across US under potential DPU22?

yes homegrown territories. Some areas are open lands ripe for the picking. Michigan where Bo Cummins is from. However we poached him from Minnesota academy. Basically allows a player to train anywhere. Most homegrown players though are not going to be signed using the dpu22 players its for more yearwood jorgenson types imo

So Bo Cummins can only graduate to first team if Minnesota agrees/gets something. Sort of makes sense if he was in their academy.

However, 14 year old "Player X" from Maryland who was never in the DC system could decide he wants to enter the RB academy because the style fits or he grew up a RB fan or whatever. As the rules currently are set up, you are saying that DC could block Player X from playing for the RB first team?

The second one is correct. The first one isnt. Minnesota wont have a claim to Bo since he isnt from there territory. Poaching between academies is allowed signing from within another academy is not allowed. However once you have them in the academy you can get some training comp etc

Thanks, for some reason I find this super confusing. This link is the only updated territory map I could find (not sure if accurate): https://twitter.com/...0398080/photo/1 . If I understand correctly, then a kid from Point Pleasant, NJ has first team MLS rights owned by Philly and, while this kid could train with RB in their academy, Philly could block kid from playing for first team. Philly wouldn't need to have any contact with this kid, they just inherently own his MLS career. Is that even legal?

I do not understand how athletes can be traded!
Who came up with this idea?
Imagine if your boss called you in one day and
told you that you were traded to a competitor!

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
