Adding 10,000 passengers post-game in that station may be a problem. Since travel is free on game days for ticket holders, how many extra trains will be added to the already crowded tracks to NYC?
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Surprised? Playoffs are an invalid champion determinant.
100%. The fewer single elimination rounds there are, the more fair the outcome is. I thought current format is good, 4 matches single elimination is pretty much as much as you could stretch it. Now they are stretching to 5 and brining 3d place teams in, diluting the product more...

Supplement the effort with free shuttles to and from hubs around NYC like they did in Qatar. FIFA and/or the US World Cup commission can organize transportation to and from MetLife like Qatar, which was a single city host for a World Cup. This isnt complicated. Just need the folks to organize it.However many games are played, NJ Transit is planning to double mass transit capacity to MetLifefrom Secaucus. There still may be long lines for the shuttle buses.

And an endless supply of cash to fund it.

Having some 3rd place teams advance nullifies "group(s) of death".

That worked fine pre-1998. Witness that Italy/ireland/Mexico/Norway group in 1994.
FIFA's insistence to make groups based on their rankings pretty much killed groups of death anyway...

That Group of Death, Group E, in 1994 had 4 teams tied on points, goal difference, wins. Fortunately 3 teams went through to the knockout stage instead of 2, which would have been the case under 2022 rules.
Italy and Ireland were tied for 2nd-3rd place after all the tie-breakers. Mexico finished first, and Norway fourth.
According to Wikipedia, Ireland finished 2nd and Italy finished 3rd because Ireland won the head to head. However that is not official.

But according to FIFA, Italy finished 2nd and Ireland 3rd.

Maybe it was due to a coin toss but I am not sure. Fifa had to distinguish between 2nd and 3rd because of placement in the knockout stage.
If only 2 teams were allowed to advance to the knockout, either Italy or Ireland would have been eliminated at the Group Stage. But because some 3rd place teams were allowed to advance, both Italy and Ireland advanced. BTW, Italy made it to the finals and lost in pks.
So who really finished 2nd in Group E in 1994?

Italy did indeed finish 3rd in the group. Their round of 16 draw matched them against Nigeria who won their group. Italy was placed 3rd because they lost to Ireland in the first group match, same reason why Argentina was placed third after finishing all tied with Bulgaria after losing their final group game to them.
Italy not winning their group threw a serious monkey wrench into the grand plan of Italy staying in New Jersey for their entire time in the tournament save a single overnight trip to DC for a group game. As it turned out they had to travel to Foxboro and DC in the knockouts before returning to play the semifinal at Giants Stadium.

I think it's been leaning Dallas for a while. A semifinal here would be nice too.Gov says MetLife 50/50 to host WC final match:

For me, I don't care where the games are because unless the US are in them I'm not going anyway.

MetLife is pretty much a lock for a semifinal.
The same could be said for the final if the place had a roof, but I don't see FIFA wanting to play a final in the afternoon in the middle of July in New Jersey or accepting a midnight-ish local kick off time in Europe by playing in the evening here.
