You're asking why the FO wouldn't deny a 23-year-old his request to go to his home continent during a global pandemic in favor of him kicking balls around on grass. Not sure what you're bringing to the table here is "common sense."

OK, you got it, FO really wanted him, but respected his wishes to be released. De Boer mutually agreed with team to leave Atlanta. Have it your way. Also, you may consider buying a bridge in Brooklyn, good value there.

This team sucks with or without Sims. We need players that are actually difference makers out there. Sims isn't that player.

Also, one observation, I noticed something interesting in your post when you referred to multi billion soccer industry around the world, Sims occupation that made him millions, his livelihood, as "kicking balls around on grass".  I mean this is a good soundbite for naive, but shows how people can make intellectually dishonest statements when trying to prove their point by all means necessary.

I think he could have helped to get one more goal and qualify. We need him AND other difference makers.

Finally a logical response. Sims does not deserve this thread. He could not beat out valot so he cried his way back to England.

Good riddance. Go play 90 minutes and not score somewhere else.

He helped in play-offs though and even scored. Yes, Valot started over him in the first few games, but I feel as the season went on, he could overtake him and definitely get meaningful minutes. He would have played a lot in the tournament, I am pretty sure of that. Now, is he top DP we can get? No. But until Thelwell gets us other DPs who are better instead, please excuse me for bitching at FO for not extedning Sims, whose skills would have really helped to look less like shit in this tourney and perhaps make play-offs with just a goal away.

I think you have to put things in perspective when the decision was made.

If you were Sims, would you want to come back to NY area when things were really bad with covid but conditions in europe were improving? Also keep in mind that there are travel bans and he could get stuck in the ny area for months or even a year if rbny doesnt pick up his contract at the end of the summer.

I would of made the same request if i was Sims

All professional MLS foreign athletes with possibly very few exceptions I am unaware of made it. Even if you read complete "PR" statement they couldn't even say he requested release, like when Kaku requested release before and we declined. They said "we understand Josh's wishes to be closer to home." They couldn't even say he requested a release. Do you really honestly think that if they really wanted him, he wouldn't be here?

The PR statement from rbny is very political. They dont want to slam the player, his current club, or his agent. They might need them to recruit future guys in the future.

If rbny really wanted him they would need to overpay and give him multiple years in his contract.

Would that be a wise choice? I am not so sure he was would be worth it. I would be nervous if rbny made that big of a commitment.

By your logic the conversation could have gone something like this:
Sims: Dennis, my loan is coming to an end, we havent played in four months, my girlfriend and family are all home in England, and I have been cooped up in an apartment here in New Jersey. I appreciate the opportunity from the club but when my loan ends I would really like to return to England.
Dennis: Do you realize you are the only foreigner player in MLS who is expressing a desire to return home? They have all been quarantined too, all across the country, and none among them doesnt want to travel to Orlando to be imprisoned with their teammates for three weeks and come off the bench for 20 minutes of action.
Sims: When you put it that way, please do everything in your power to extend the loan or purchase my contract.

Thank you sir may I have another!
Lol

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Why overpay, just extend the loan option they already negotiated for the entire year. This is a club option. No need to give contract. I get why some people who don't really think Sims is worth it would be indifferent to it. However, thinking that they really wanted him, but didn't extend because Sims wished to be close to home, so he forced us to take it in the ass with no other good choice, as in the PR announcement by FO, is a bit naive.

"The New York Red Bulls have re-acquired winger Josh Sims on loan until June 30 from Southampton, the club announced Tuesday. The club has the option to extend the loan. He'll be added to the roster as a Young Designated Player." https://www.mlssocce...oan-southampton

It seems like you dont want to accept the fact that this is real life with real people, and not fantasy football manager. Decisions arent being made by Artificial Intelligence, but between the front office, players, agents...in other words between people. You keep harping on the FO naively letting Sims go and hurting the team. None of us has any idea how this went down. Sheesh. Some things work out, some dont.

don't swallow FO excuses like a prostitute semen of her client

WTF?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Watching too much porn during the lockdown?

Guilty as charged. Just watched a rape scene in Orlando a couple of days back, starring Florian and Amro.
