This is what Goff posted:
*As first seen on the Insider's Twitter feed, the Chicago Fire and trialist Collins John have been unable to reach agreement on a contract, and the 24-year-old Liberian-Dutch forward is planning to return to Europe to seek other opportunities.

John, Brian McBride's teammate at Fulham before the American forward returned to MLS to play for the Fire, had shown well in training camp. The sticking point, I'm told, was not salary, which leads me to believe it was the number of guaranteed years in the offer. Could a deal still be reached? I suppose, but at the moment, it doesn't look good.

Emphasis mine.

With all due respect, Goff was clearly repeating what John was saying/feeling/posturing about the situation. He said John planned to return to Europe, and he did state that a deal could still be reached, however unlikely.

Goff's Twitter report stated:
"Chicago Fire negotiations with Collins John have broken down and 24-yr-old forward is planning to return to Europe, Insider has learned"

John may have indeed been planning to return to Europe during an evening of frustration. I really don't equate the way Goff reported this to the way Ives reports things. From everything I saw Goff was quick with reporting that talks had resumed. I believe every report Goff made was what John or his agent were telling him. Why wouldn't he report it? Now Ives would have written: "John returning to Europe, no contract possible as Fire low ball EPL star", that's the difference.

The article was quite obviously suggesting that things had fallen apart and he was leaving. You can look at the situation now and read it the way you want, i knew it was BS right away myself, but it was poorly written, a bit sensationalist in my opinion. Your opinion may very. I've grown to expect better from Goff. Ives writes that way all the time which is why you can't believe anything he writes. Sometimes you sit on something until you really know what's going on so you don't come out with crap in the end. Again, just my opinion.

Great news. I'm not Dutch, but it was Dutch player that really got me interested in the game to begin with.

Anyone know if he's left-footed?
