HIGHLIGHTS: Philadelphia Union vs. New York Red Bulls | August 8, 2023 - YouTube

The goal at :30 is the sort of positional understanding in a press turnover (complete with quick, progessive, passing on the grass and immediate runs) that we have not had since Marsch. If thats Lesesne putting his offensive spin on Struber Ball, then its a no brainer....

That was a play where Luqui finally, finally did something that a top end #10 does. Lesesne has done a good job putting Luqui in space to dribble, but this is basically the first time he managed to get a nicely weighted ball at the end of it.

Outside of Luqi, though, look at how the rest of the team moves. there is offensive anticipation in the off the ball players.

It was a great play and there's been more of it, but still not a lot of it under Lesesne. Would love for him to prove his case by getting the team to crank out a few of these each week through the end of the year.

Seeing red made good point this is Luq getting ball centrally

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Bring back the diamond midfield

Did that change correlate with Luqi's fall off?

Maybe try a 4-3-3 attack formation?

Coronel
Harper-Reyes-nealis-tolkin
Edelman- amaya
Luquinhas
Omir-vanzeir- Morgan

This way Luquinhas stays centrally. Plus, this will make sure our best attackers are all playing at the same time.

Luqui didn't really have a falling off, more that he had an unprecedent explosion of goalscoring when he showed up here that he had never had in his career. Essentially he hit a hot streak, and the player we see now is the player he is. He's looked better under Lesesne because playing on the ground suits him a hell of lot better than Struber's boot ball, and the team has been (I think intentionally) more stretched back to front under Lesesne which gives him more room to dribble.

I think the current shape suits him as well as any. Or maybe to say that I'm not so convinced putting him in a classic #10 position will make him any more of that type of player.

He's not been the same since that groin injury.

The team is 9-5-5 (W-D-L) under Lesesne.

A lot of people around here argue we should have kept Carnell on after he took over for Armas.  The team went 6-3-5 under him.

We probably win the playoff game if Carnell coaches over Struber too but everyone was desperate to get Armas out of here and it's hard to blame anyone for that. Absolutely putrid coach.
