I think that is not fair to Vanzier at least at this point.  Klimala had ample opportunities to score, he just could not do it and could do less with the ball.  Were Stuber tactics (or lack thereof) contributory, totally but Klimala was objectively not good here.  Vanzier has scored some nice goals and to be fair to him that miss last night was partially to Blake coming out early and having two defenders on his back.  It is still no excuse for not forcing the save or getting it on frame.  You may be right that they share similarities, but I do think it is a bit premature to make that comparison.

I dont think its premature. For me, the biggest shocker was that he wasn't fast.

if you look at his belgium clips, he was amazing in transition and he ran by people. In MLS, he physically hasnt been able to do that.

Yeah, he's been disappointing but still more to see. I like him more than Klimala for sure.

I'd just like to see him with one other good MLS starting player in the front 4 because we havent given him that. Certainly no other striker and Luq definitely isn't good.

I'm going to wait until next year to make that determination. He's already shown more finishing chops than any striker we've had since BWP, I can see him being a 15+ goal scorer with consistent game time and service. I couldn't seriously say the same thing about Klimala.

Odd player though. He's capable of taking both the clunkiest and the prettiest touches of the same game. Doesn't have the best raw athleticism as elf pointed out. I'm also with TK_RBNY that his free roaming role is a bad idea.

That is an extremely low bar. It's a bar that is laying on the ground.

lol fair let me rephrase - I think he has the finishing chops to be a DP level striker here with consistent game time and service

Seems bullish, hope it turns out to be true. For me he's in "so you're telling me there's a chance" territory at the moment but would love to be proven wrong.

still think he can be very productive as well but in our style of play needs an athlete next to him thats not dreadful on the ball and lets him stay down the middle.  When Manoel is doing some of the channel running instead of him he looks better. needs to find more consistency with his touch though.

In MLS games, where he scored 2 goals, his xG is... 2.0

In Leagues Cup games, where he scored 2 goals, his xG is 1.3

In the Open Cup game, where he scored a goal, his xG is .3

It's not great by any means, but he is overperforming xG... Klimala wishes he could do that.

The simple truth is that Vanzier doesn't have the players around him to provide adequate support.  And if the RBFO doesn't spend the bucks, things aren't going to get any better either with his performance or the team's.  Perhaps Tolkin and only one or two other RB players could find their way onto Union S-G, Vanzier's previous team.  I'm sure he's now as demoralised by the situation as fans are by his hoped-for level of production.  It was a pay raise that convinced him to come to NY; otherwise he'd have been better off staying at Union and being part of the Brighton network and a chance at the real big leagues.

My concern is that even youngish proven players are going to realize that NYRB is nothing but a development club in a second tier league. That will hamper signing any European players unless theyre content to make a decent wage playing soccer and want an American experience. The young Central and South American players will only view an opportunity here as a stepping stone to Europe. If youre looking for that there are better clubs with better networks like the Smurfs.

I think he can succeed in MLS but in a possession system like miami, dallas or atlanta. And even in those systems, I dont think he is the star. He is more of a luxury role player which raises questions as to why even have him as a DP.

This is not new information, no European or South American player grows up dreaming to play in MLS or win the CCL...

The RB network is pretty good in terms of getting talented players to move to bigger and better things, in the network or eventually outside of it, assuming they are good enough.

The problem for NYRB lately has been identifying talent, not players not wanting to come here.

No
Should have more overall but struber system injuries suspension
Hoping for 6g/11 games left

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.
