Insane how whoever is moderating this site wants to push a doom and gloom outlook at all costs by moving anything remotely positive to the dead horse forum.

Nothing is allowed except fear porn.

You consider a post about how lots of people in this country care more about going to the beach than increasing transmission of a deadly disease "remotely positive"?  Sounds more tragic, selfish and sad to me.

Does China have 80K cases? Or 640K?

When you have a non insignificant portion of the population who believes wearing masks is "useless" or "a political thing" and actively refuses to wear them...I doubt that cases will decline to the point necessary to restart the season in earnest.

The government officials who allowed mass demonstrations over the past few weeks have nobody to blame but themselves for that. They forfeited every bit of credibility they had by doing that because people saw this while being told if they go to a park they will go to jail and could clearly see the contradiction.

What is your suggested alternative to "allowing demonstrations", abolishing the first amendment and jailing everybody?

They shut down houses of worship so they weren't really respecting the first amendment during all this to begin with. Do you think a gathering of tens of thousands of people in the middle of a pandemic is advisable?

Have you ever read 1A? It has got quite the expansion via case law over the centuries.
Meanwhile, I have been banned from taking my grandchildren to the playground, even if no one else is there, for more than three months. I suppose if a few other parents & GPs joined me with protest signs, maybe did a little damage (in righteous anger, of course), while the kids played nearby, you would defend that exercise of free speech & assembly.
Fortunately, DeBlasio has now directed the police not to arrest those cutting chains so children can play. Perhaps the DAs will expand their non-prosecution stance for civil disobedience.
Never too early to let the young ones become political.

They shut down houses of worship temporarily, but didn't jail you for believing in something. Isn't the latter the spirit of what's in the 1A?

I'm sure the irony of comparing protesting against closed parks, in the face of a massive national movement protesting against social injustice, is probably lost on you. But everyone has the right to protest against things that truly matter to them.

My post was formulated as a yes or no question, didn't see an answer, not surprised.

To your question, no, health-wise it was not advisable, but I'm guessing that explaining why protests happened anyway to you would be pointless.

With midday protests that I saw in my neighborhood, almost all were wearing masks.

Your last part showed you have zero interest in anything resembling a good faith argument so wasting my time further with you is pointless.

From a NJ perspective, the protests/marches fall within the current restrictive guidelines, do they not? Stay at home orders have been lifted, I believe outdoor gatherings of >500 people are now allowed (I could be wrong), nearly everyone is wearing a mask (at least from all the footage Ive seen), etc. To me, it doesnt seem like an exception to the rules is being made for people to peacefully protest.
