that true. could be one of those signings where they are close to an agreement to sign a free agent in the summer and want the ability to negotiate for an earlier arrival.
Like a certain French striker playing for AC Milan?!?! (A guy can dream right?)

Manoel is on fire!
According to the latest Seeing Red episode, it appears that Manoel is playing with a chip on his shoulder/something to prove. Hopefully this carries over into the regular season.

My point is that you CANNOT forget about the start of the year. The GM's job is to build the roster. They have the most impact in the offseason and then they get another big shot in the summer window. At the start of the year, most people on this board felt that, on paper, this roster was an improvement on the previous roster. Our main problem this season was scoring goals. Of course, the players most responsible for that underperformed this season.Forget about the start of the year. We had hopes that Dante would be great, because on paper he looked good, but it is up to GM to actually bring good players and evaluate them in real life. But the point is not what we hoped the roster looked like before. You saw the guys actually play and can make a judgement based on performance. You don't think this was the worst roster in recent memory when evaluating the actual performance of players on that roster? Which one was worse?
Three major disappointments regarding on the field performance this season were Morgan, Vanzeir, and Burke. Again, Morgan essentially missed the season due to injury. In January 2023, I cannot expect Schneider to plan for that (outside of actually using all 3 dp spots). Thank you for admitting Vanzeir looked good on paper. He missed most of the season due to suspension/injury, Schneider couldn't have predicted that. Burke, again great on paper, scored 7 goals off the bench in the previous season. He ends up being another guy with fitness issues. MLS roster rules don't allow for having adequate back ups for these types of players just hanging around on the bench just in case. The 4th disappointment in production is being rumored to transfer. Again, I actually like Luq, but the numbers he put up don't justify the DP tag.
I'm really not trying to be a RB apologist. I believe not using the 3rd DP slot is criminal. Also, I agree with you that the GM must evaluate players in real life and make judgements. I'd argue Schneider is doing that:
Barlow - not good enough, get rid of AND acquire assets
Yearwood - same as above
Fernandez - not good enough to invest resources to keep, let him walk
Ndam - same as above
Luq - not good enough to justify the DP spot, hopefully recoup some $, but at the very least, acquire someone who can impact the game more
Harper - keep, still young, American, shows promise
D Nealis - keep, relatively cheap, American, utility guy
Carmona - keep, still young, affordable?, maybe he makes the jump and becomes another player who can contribute or can be flipped for $/assets
Again, the underlying premise that you don't trust the FO and you want to see an impact player come in before you celebrate is reasonable, but some of the other stuff we'll just need to agree to disagree on. Hopefully on opening day we can crack open a couple beers to a better roster!
