He underachieved his expected goals more than any other striker in the league last year.  With another couple games like tonight, he has a good chance of doing it again.  At this point he sample size is getting quite large and you can't put it down to bad luck or form anymore.  The guy is just not good at putting the ball in the goal.

He's last in that stat again right now. Kevin Cabral is his biggest competition for the repeat Wooden Stump.

The more I watch Klimala, the more I'm convinced he's not (and likely never will be) a true #9. He has no striker's "instinct" inside the box. He always takes extra touches and gets himself away from goal. He has no skill ability to beat defenders 1v1. He has no elite top end speed or strength to get by defenders. And more often than not, even if he's 1v1 he'll shoot right at the keeper.

I think he'd benefit from swapping with Morgan in that inverted winger / supporting striker role. The things Klimala does well (hold up play, finding open areas) would work better there. Plus Morgan actually knows how to score, so putting him closer to goal might benefit him too.

best suggestion on this board in ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree Klimala is the 2nd striker - the team is missing the striker and neveer replaced what Fabio/Fletcher was supposed to be.

4231

Morgan

Luq - CCJ/Omir - Klimala

Also, this put him more in position to cover at outside back as we know from prior games he is pretty good at ;-)

heck a 3331 would be good.

Morgan

Luq -/ Omir/CCJ/Clark (if he ever gets into form/wins back STruber) / Klimala

Tolkin CDM? Duncan

Long Nealis Reyes

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Not so fast! Has Morgan ever played striker?
Morgan is effective at his position.
Klimala is ineffective at his position.
Do we want to risk Morgan being bad at ST?
Will a change in position improve Klimala?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Exactly.  Morgan ain't broke, don't try to fix him.    How many assists has Kilmala had lately, playing wide?

He'd get murdered up front by some 6'2" CB. Not a fan.

Totally agree with everyone saying don't mess with Morgan's role in an attempt to jumpstart Klimala. I think Ngoma, whenever he gets back, is our best bet to offer Klimala the opportunity to play a more support striker role. Something like this:

----------Ngoma

------------------Klimala

--Morgan--------------Luqinhas

----------Amaya--------Dru

Tolkin---Reyes---Long---Duncan

I don't remember what game it was, but Struber benched Klimala and had Morgan and Omir trying to make runs behind the defense and play hold-up. It didn't go well!

Im not against playing with a False 9, but Struber needs to change up the attacking plan if we go that route.

So not happening then. It worked better vs. City than it did vs. Toronto, despite the worse result. Still not ideal to not have a focal point in attack from a team that likes to pump long balls forward.

Till Ngoma is ready we just gotta keep trying to get Klimala going. Not sure if sending him to RB2 would help or hurt his confidence.

I don't think Ngoma is a typical #9 either.

Thats not happening, and as sad as it is yesterday was one of Klimalas better games in a while. Theres also no depth at the striker position. Barlow is unviable.

We are way our ahead of our headlights saying what Ngoma is or isn't

Just a crappy situation we have to play out at this point, and hope Klimala gets cut and replaced in the offseason. Impressive kneecapping by the front office man.

Apparently Transfermarkt just updated their MLS valuations and they somehow think Klimala's worth increased recently to $4.4M. Hopefully some naive GMs out there believe it.
