"...a person with impeccable contacts in the soccer world said...that the Red Bulls are not interested in Ballack and instead have set their sights on the acquisition of the controversial Irish attacking midfielder Stephen Ireland, 25, who currently plays for Aston Villa in England."
Don't know much about Stephen Ireland, other than he looks a bit Chavvy, and that he's Irish. Also, we most likely wouldn't have to worry about him playing internationally, had a bit of a falling out.
Maybe MetroTard or EightyHoursAway can provide some insight for us.

Was Man City's Player of the Year only a couple seasons ago. Interesting... never came across my mind.
I have to believe that Hans knows Stephen Ireland from his days assisting Sven at Man City.
Ireland's top 10 goals at Man City
He seems to have great control of the ball... good feet.
"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

I still think Hleb makes most sense.

Not sure that last one is his but I wouldn't put it past him.
Soccer is a game about a group of people working together to protect and obtain a common goal.
Baseball is a game with a bunch of babies just trying to run "home" and be "safe"

And we are going to have a legitimate bench too, this year.

yes sir. i've always rated ireland. he does have attitude issues. the whole grandma thing (if you don't know, he's basically banned from playing internationally with Ireland because he said his grandma died so he can miss practice/a few friendlies). i would sign him to a DP, but non-guaranteed or at least some clauses in it to cover our asses in case we get THAT ireland.Long story short: if RBNY can fill their last hole (CAM) with an EPL quality player like Ireland, we will be miles ahead of anyone in MLS besides Galaxy.
And we are going to have a legitimate bench too, this year.
hopefully he's good friends with keane, and keane is enjoying his stay in MLS and convinces him to sign in the summer

Marquez, Tainio, Lindpere.
Richards would sit or be pushed up top.

logjam in the middle.
Marquez, Tainio, Lindpere.
Richards would sit or be pushed up top.
Inevitably there will be injuries/ suspensions. Having one really good player on the bench at any give time is a good thing.
Tainio can also play RB.
