USA MNT had one of the best productions of youth talen in the early and mid 2000s.

In 2006, folks had high hopes for these guys.
Clint Dempsey, 23
BobbY Convey, 23
DaMarcus Beasley, 24
Landon Donovan 24
Eddie Johnson, 22

Plus, Freddy Adu, Bradley Altidore, and Szetela were tearing things up in the youth teams.

Rossi would of been the star  of that golden generation for team USA. Arena could of used him in the 2006 world cup. i think that is why folks are upset about his switch to italy.

Rossi on the left and Donovan on the Right would of been a scary thought.

Don't forget Shalrie Joseph, who was US eligible.

With a little patience he could have started for the USMNT around that era.

Here's a good article on Russia's right back, a Brazilian who snubbed the Brazilian national team.

Worse than Rossi, since Fernandes had no connection to Russia before going to play for a club there.

I'll never have an issue with a player choosing to play for a worse country. It's when a player bails on his home country to play for a better one that bothers me.

I don't think anyone cares that Arturo Alvarez plays for El Salvador or that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plays for Gabon.

Rossi also would've played in the 08 Beijing Olympics and would've started up top with Jozy in the 2010 WC.

Btw, Rossi DID PLAY in the  08 Olympics. Not only did he play  (for Italy), he was the top scorer of the competition even though Italy was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

He was the "real deal" and it is a shame that he did not play the usmnt. Hope we never see him in MLS.

you know what i meant!

he'd have been pretty awesome if he played for USMNT in the 08 Beijing Olympics, the 09 Confed Cup, and starting up top with Jozy instead of Robbie Findley.

Each situation is different. Fernandes blossomed after going to Russia. In the meantime Brazil still had a couple of equivalent right backs.

On the other extreme, Freddie Adu did not desert Ghana. He was just media hype without any real quality.

The Rossi situation was different. At his prime, he was real quality. He would have filled out a Donovan-McBride/Jozy-Rossi front line. He was the missing part that we needed.

The issue now is whether MLS throws him a million dollar contract for his name. Perhaps, he has a year or two of mediocre soccer left. But he doesn't deserve any sympathy or handout from MLS so that he can play close to "home". There are plenty of other leagues around the world if he still wants to play.

MSG rain-delay pre-game show said that the RB brass are not interested in Rossi because his knees and his age preempt him from playing the pressing style that RB is playing. RB prefers under-24  year old players. Rossi may end up in MLS, but it's not likely to be at RB even though he is training with them.

In the interest of rounding out the discussion about dual-nationals, we have omitted an obvious incident involving Chris Armas. It appears that the ussf worked a deal with the corrupt felons at concacaf to declare some PR games to be "non-sanctioned". Ha, ha, ha. That enabled Armas to be eligible for the usmnt. In fairness to Chris, he always wanted to be on the usmnt and was somehow hoodwinked into playing for PR without realizing it could jeopardize his eligibility for the usmnt, who at the time had NO interest in Chris.

From Wikipedia:

Armas played for Puerto Rico in the 1993 Caribbean Cup. The competition was not then recognized by FIFA and so his five matches were classed as friendlies. He was therefore later allowed to switch his allegiance to the United States,>Michael Lewis (February 2001). "Now You See Him". Soccer Digest. Archived from the original on 2007-12-21. Unfortunately for Armas, he did not break into the squad until soon after the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and his ACL injury came just before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, so he was never able to play for the United States in the world's most prestigious soccer competition. He was named as a standby player for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and did not feature in the final squad."

Former Italy forward Giuseppe Rossi’s injury-plagued career has taken another negative turn with a positive doping test.

Italy’s anti-doping agency Nado Italia announced on Tuesday that Rossi will stand trial next week after testing positive for an eye drug that can be used as a masking agent.

Wants to play with us... or the Blue team (which makes sense given his age and how he is falling apart).
