he's a central midfielder. i'd sign him and start him alongside Felipe and push Adams into the CAM role, go 4 in the back. 4-2-3-1.

we'd still be thin at outside back with either the 3man back line or a 4man back line. i think we need another CB.

Royer--Adams--Kaku

----Felipe--Kaiser------

Bench of Rivas, Keita, Davis, Escobar, Redding

That's a pretty damn good team on paper.

Can Davis be developed as an outside back?

The idea that anyone would be down on bringing in the captain of a top 5 Bundesliga side (and for a reasonable price) just boggles my mind completely.

I don't think it plays to his strengths

Agree seems like a steal

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

I think it's close. Think about it:

BWP

Kaku Royer

Felipe Adams

LB Long Collin Redding Murillo

Meara Escobar Lade Keita Davis Etienne Rivas

Only holes are CB depth and actual LB/RB personnel.

Forget Etienne, I think this signing would have bigger implications for Davis (than Felipe, unfortunately). Would love to see Davis and Adams get a few starts together in central mid. Nice combo of size, athleticism, and skill on the ball, with zero bitchassery to piss off the soccer gods.

RED. BULL. OUT.

Can Davis be developed as an outside back?

There was a thought he could play there a few years ago. I think it was his rookie season and we had something of an injury crisis at fullback.

I'm not sure I'd want him there.

captain of a top 5 Bundesliga side

He is no longer the captain, has started one of 17 Bundesliga matches, and at 29 is the oldest non-goalie on the squad.

RBL is T-3d in the Bundesliga, 5th on GD.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

The impression I get is that he was a very good Bundesliga 2 player who simply hasn't been a big part of the new top flight team. So it's a bit dishonest to flat out call him a true Bundesliga starter.

That doesn't mean he can't be a solid MLS player, mind you.

Where do you people come up with this shit? How would Kaiser be a moneyball signing? He's a 29-year-old who played for one of the best teams in Germany last season. He could easily sign for another team in the Bundesliga. Right now he makes about $900K annually, so even if he took a massive paycut he'd still cost a decent penny. This would be a damn good signing.

He has fallen out of favor with the mothership and isn't getting minutes anymore.

He absolutely would be a moneyball signing, like Demari and Gulbrandsen that followed in his footsteps. Every season the fizzy drink overloads like to send us some guy whose career needs resurrecting.

I don't think you know what "Moneyball" actually means. It's not a catch-all phrase for being cheap.

Also, this signing is blatantly different from Damari and Gulbrandsen. First of all, it wouldn't be a loan. It would be permanent. Second, Leipzig has nothing to "resurrect." He is not going to be their property in six months. There is nothing in it for them.

Guldbranson would've been good here had they given him a proper chance, i feel like.
