#1359277 RBG strategy/philosophy for NY

Posted by regulator on Yesterday, 12:34 PM

That's the thing; there's literally no incentive for RBG to spend more.  They invested in the stadium, they invested in big stars like TH14 and Rafa. Go back and look at highlight videos from the TH14 era. We bitch about attendance now, but from the eyeball test, it was much worse back then, even with the stars and the stadium. They cut down on big star spending and we still won 2 shields and were competitive enough.  They also got brand exposure via Concacaf Champions League.

What would spending now do for them that wasn't accomplished by spending back then? There is no financial incentive to winning an MLS Cup. I don't think the league generates enough broadcast revenue for the team to say "you know what, let me drop an extra $10M on transfer fees so that I can win MLS Cup", because at the end of the day - they will just be out those $10M.  It's pretty clear that their focus now is to go full Salzburg - get young, cheap players, and flip them for a profit.  Not to buy a $10M young South American player to flip. Certainly not to buy a 30+ year old international player so that we can win a cup.

The problem seems to be that people are conflating "Red Bull" the global brand, and "Red Bull New York".  Yes $10M is a rounding error to "Red Bull" the global brand, but in the real world, it doesn't work that way. "Red Bull New York" has its own budgets, targets, metrics, etc. to hit. And $10M is in fact a big deal for them. If the $10M won't get them a financial return, they won't spend it just to placate our dwindling fan base.

Cool. The 87 remaining fans that remember the metrostars are stoked

As opposed to the 87 RBNY fans at the stadium nowadays?

#1358598 Interim head athletic trainer leaves

Posted by regulator on 05 January 2020 - 01:57 PM

In other news we lost our interim head athletic trainer to Inter Miami.  So now a month before preseason we have job ads up for a new head athletic trainer lol.  This club.

How should this club have handled its trainer making a personal decision to join a new team? Chained him to the gym door lol? This forum.

Tyler Adams back in the starting lineup for Leipzig!

..playing at right back. Somewhere, Berhalter just popped a raging boner.

Down 0-1 10 mins in vs Augsburg

losing a game to the defending CL champs is vintage marsch? i actually thought salzburg was better for most of the game right before the 2 goals. Leipzig made it through to the next round - hopefully Tyler is back to full fitness in time for the next round.

#1357450 Schedule 2020

i'm ok with this.  balanced schedule is only a necessity for single table format.  for a playoff league like ours, it's more important to not have games in Dec IMO.

#1357303 Kemar Lawrence wants out

He's the best left back in concacaf and gets paid a pittance. Give him a tam deal

#1356886 Southampton offered Long?

Posted by regulator on 18 November 2019 - 10:40 AM

Agreed - I liked Tarek in his limited time this year. Had the "RBNY" mentality (aggressive in tackles, good speed and physicality).  Could refine his game a bit but seemed to be a lot better than many other CBs in the league. Wouldn't mind him and Parker starting, but absolutely need another backfill as a strong 3rd CB if Long leaves. Maybe bring Ndam back as CB 4?  I hate moving taxi over as a makeshift CB - his strength is out wide

2 years ago, you could make the argument that Davis at least deserved a sniff at the full team. But he's regressed so much that it's no longer viable.

Ruidiaz - love him.  Guy only gets bigger when the stage gets bigger.

--------new TAM striker

-----------new TAM mid (assume kaku gets sold)

Royer-------------------------------Sims (assume we get him back)

Kemar--Parker--Tarek (assume Long gets sold)---Duncan

i'd be ok with that lineup going into next year. the problem is if we have guys like Barlow or Muyl getting significant minutes or projected to start.

I honestly don't see what Trapp would bring to the table. He doesn't run. Doesn't press. Plays cute passes I guess? And is a USMNT player only on account of blind nepotism on our national team coach's part.

He's like Sean Davis 2.0.  Not even...he's like Sean Davis 1.5. Pass

I hate TFC, but fuck Atlanta. Very happy to see that result.

Literally this.

#1356346 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by regulator on 30 October 2019 - 02:41 PM

I think Muyl's athleticism is being severely underrated.  He is undoubtedly quick over short distances.  He is very strong.  He has perhaps the best stamina in the team.  The guy is a good athlete.

It's a good thing we are Red Bull Track and Field team, and not Red Bull New York soccer team
