Apparently Ellis wanted Rapinoe available to take a PK if necessary but would not use her as a sub otherwise.

A fourth sub would have been allowed had the game proceeded to Extra Time, but all 3 permitted subs were used in the 90. Impossible to say if USA could have made it through the extra 30+ minutes without making a sub.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Rooting for the Netherlands. Sweden will be really tough in the final. The Netherlands could be also, but may have problems with the pressure.

I think you can get a mulligan on this.

Its all good.......I was only 1 game late.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. "Ticker tape" has virtually disappeared from the English language. It stopped being used by stock exchanges in 1970.

You do not come off well, insulting a US senator, while posting an invalid link.

I could not access the full article below; apparently there is an argument that WNT matches generate more income than MNT. I do not know if that includes the Gold Cup, which is organized by CONCACAF.

Bill is DOA in the current Senate/administration in any case.

This WaPo article has detailed analysis: https://www.washingt...-less-than-men/

Imho, USNT per diems and per game pay should be equal, but those amounts are peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Bridging the gap between the FIFA WC awards to teams is a much larger sticking point. The FIFA WC bonus for all men's teams was 400M; the champions alone received $38M. For the WWC, the amounts were 30M, and 4M, respectively, an order of magnitude of difference. You could argue these amounts are due to different levels of interest and revenue but they are also completely arbitrarily set by FIFA

Getting USSF to just pay for that (for the US teams), essentially demanding a few million more for the extremely popular USWNT could happen.

Fixing FIFA in our lifetimes won't - and as many people love to point out, obviously women's soccer is less popular than men's so a discrepancy in worldwide revenue and pay is to be expected due to market forces. But you can start bridging the gap at least.

Putting more money in the women's game (not just winners' prizes, but development from an early stage) on a worldwide level would help that immensely. Infantino is talking a good game, but we'll see what actually happens. https://www.espn.com...ble-prize-money

Note: as Megan Rapinoe pointed out (can't find it at the moment), doubling the WWC prizes from 30 to 60M would be nice. But at the same time, the men's prizes are expected to go up by more than 30M, so the overall gap would actually increase in absolute terms.

The number of federations that compete in the men's WC (starting at qualification) is around 200. A much lower number compete in the women's WC. How many exactly I do not know. And countries where women are banned from watching soccer are certainly not going to have a women's team.
