I think that many state and local governments have been handling it well. There has been a pretty good response outside of the federal government..

The government got caught with their pants down. They saw what was happening and they could have immediately decided on travel restrictions, the build out of emergency medical facilities, the ordering of thousands of additional respirators, and most importantly test kits.

The test kits is the worst part because STILL right now today we have no way of accurately tracking and containing.

This is not only coming from me. This is coming from a good friend of mine who runs his own virology lab for Harvard University.  And for everyone here he believes it will be at least another 30-80 days before we reach the peak of the corona virus impact. Thats assuming the government can actually get their shit together. It will be much longer if the delay in testing persists.

China is building hospitals overnight. South Korea is pumping out thousands of tests a day. Jesus fucking Christ we built an entire war machine to beat the nazis overnight but we cant handle THIS???

Anyway, be mindful everyone. Especially as it concerns the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

Im pretty sure we were fairly fast with the travel restrictions. We are also looking .0000034% of the population as being confirmed positive so lets not lose our shit here bud. That number is likely underestimated due to limited testing and also the fact that the symptoms dont exactly stand out much from other illnesses. But mass hysteria isnt helpful.

This article lays it out well.  Basically, the issue is that we have hundreds of millions of people (both insured and uninsured) in this country who will  hesitant to get tested for the virus because it could very likely cost them money personally.  In countries with universal healthcare, this is not an issue.  It is much easier to convince people in other systems that there will be no cost to them and that it is in their interest to get tested as soon as possible.  In China, the government can simply say that no one can be charged for the testing.  In Italy and South Korea, they have universal healthcare and it is free. 
 
This is before you take into consideration things like paid sick leave, which the United States lacks and makes it far more likely that people will go to their work while sick and transmit it to everyone else.  The United States is easily the worst positioned advanced economy to deal with a pandemic.

Having visited a health facility today and talking to multiple staff, the biggest issue is lack of available test kits. This location advised folks with symptoms NOT to enter and only certain health systems had the staff and test kits to serve possible patients. Therefore the biggest issue is folks simply arent likely to get tested which further spreads an already very contagious disease.

I paid $200 for a regular flu test earlier this year. I am sure costs are part of it since had I known the price, I doubt I would have gotten it. Not much you can do to treat outside fluids and rest anyway.

The red seat was donated to Mike's family. Interesting they didn't mention plans for the old ones but maybe they can be used to replace damaged seats in other sections.

Something is better than nothing, sure. But you don't get a star for a shield and there is exactly zero stars above our crest. Until they award one for SS it won't matter as much as MLS Cup.

Came across some spurs fans watching the Liverpool game at my buddy's apartment down the street from RBA. One of them came over and said something unrelated to soccer, but I asked if they were going to game later. She indicated she had never been and had no intention of ever going.

The Euro superiority thing is nothing new, but when you have people who live within walking distance and couldn't find two fucks to give, you have a problem.

I dont think people dismiss it entirely. To win the shield means you won a ton of regular season games. Regardless of your opinion on the playoffs, its generally welcomed to rake in the regular season wins.

With that said, there is no parade for a shield win. There is no commercial selling special hats on ESPN. For NY to win the shield but lose the MLS Cup is just heartbreak and another year of not winning when it matters (the post season). Perhaps its undervalued but is that any different than any other American sports league?

The league has set the precedence of importance. The audience and American sports culture echoes in tandem. You can argue we should be in line with leagues like BPL. You can personally value things differently. But in my mind the evidence and majority places MLS Cup above all with zero room for interpretation.

We Americans love the playoffs. Those adrenaline-pumping promos and adverts. The weeks of anticipation for the next knockout game. The dozens of articles debating the possible formations and who will rise to the occasion. Appreciate that something satisfying that comes with an agreed upon final stage. Revel in that crisp autumn day and that tingle of excitement Thursday night after your third beer, chatting about the Eastern Conference final at RBA Saturday night.

So please, win all the trophies. But if you can only win one, let it be that elusive MLS Cup.

Logically, a balanced schedule can determine the best team over the course of a season.

It is understood many leagues overseas operate in this fashion. Many MLS fans are also fans of overseas teams. In many cases, they were fans before their city got an MLS team.

It is also understood that American sports typically award the champion based on a playoff system. It is also understood that the MLS schedule is not balanced. It is also the case that many aspects of the game and maturity level are different here (such as Pro/Rel).

There is no doubt that the league officials and majority of fans consider the MLS a cup awardee to be the champion of the league. This is also reinforced by the culture and lack of balanced schedule previously mentioned.

The owners love extra revenue from post season fixtures. The audience largely demands it. The travel and costs (among other things) makes a balanced schedule unlikely. There are many obstacles to overcome before people start to consider the SS the overall champion.

I wasn't banking on marsch bringing us a cup but the timing will be yet another excuse why we don't get one this year.  And then whatever stupid thing happens next year, repeat repeat repeat forever. Same old metro. It's Metro's law. I'll cut off my big toe and drink it in a smoothie if this team wins the cup.

Not exactly double, but if total score after two games is tied, whoever scored more away goals advances. In other words, if we beat Toronto 1:0 on Sunday, total score is 2:2, and Toronto will advance since they scored 2 away goals and we only 1.

If Toronto scores 2, extra time is not possible. We would need to score 3 and the game would be over.

We need to win, scoring a minimum of 2 goals. The only extra time scenario is 2-1 which forces two 15 minute halfs where away goals do not matter.
