His issue is consistency and hes error/turnover prone, but he should get some decent minutes with a lot of the other young attacking options gone.

I think they would have dumped/exposed Omir too, but he was already under contract and also automatically protected for draft due to some rule: https://www.newyorkr...-list-ahead-mls
But yeah, I would prefer to keep Stroud or Mines over Omir, I just don't think this was an available option.
All HG's under 25 are automatically protected

Ben Mines selected in 2020 MLS End-of-Year Waivers | FC Cincinnati
How do they get to call him a Home Grown????

Omir has shown flashes of being able to play in the half spaces, and an ability to turn quickly and go towards goal, which is probably going to be more beneficial as a second striker or attacking midfielder in either formation.
His issue is consistency and hes error/turnover prone, but he should get some decent minutes with a lot of the other young attacking options gone.
Also, he is very easy to get off the ball. Just like Mines was a year before, but he improved in that area, is a year younger than Omir, and showed good one v one skills. I would still take him over Omir, but like I said before, I don't think Thelwell had that option. He could have kept both though. Hopefully he didn't because there are some really good midfielders coming in during the transfer window.

The rights of Patrick Seagrist, who we cut, traded to Miami for a 3rd pick and conditional 50k of GAM. Another pick to throw a dart on behalf of the USL team.

So we paid 100K for 3 shitty games, 50K (maybe?), and a 3rd rounder. Good Hamlett math.

We were subject to Hamlett's inability to be an SD for 4 transfer windows. That is serious and depressing to think about.

We got more for Patrick Seagrist's rights than we did for Derrick Etienne LOL

Seagrist seemed like a good kid from his Twitter feed, but I gotta be honest I'm not sure what Miami is thinking here. He looked like he had a really long way to go before he was ready to play in MLS.

I was unimpressed and give zero fucks that he's gone even if we had gotten nothing for him, but from their perspective I'm sure they like his chances better than a third-round pick, which I think is probably a reasonable enough assessment. Have to wonder if their scouting knowledge is even deep enough to make a credible selection that deep in the draft.

Totally possible they just don't value the draft, I think it was Philly's GM that traded literally all of their picks a few years ago?
But honestly, maybe I'm harsh on Seagrist, I'd take my chances with the 3rd round pick and keep my $50k if I'm Miami... I thought he had "USL ceiling" written all over him.

Last year Miami themselves traded all of their picks outside the first round. You have a new team with foreign ownership and probably weak connections to NCAA and youth soccer right now. No combine because of COVID, I assume. They'd probably be picking a name out of a hat.
