Once again, the US women outdo the men.
Congrats on the hockey gold medal! 🥇

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I'm very excited the women won the gold but this isn't even close to a fair comparison. The USA men's roster was awful and had no chance of winning anything because the best Americans couldn't even play there.

But then again the best American men bombed spectacularly at the World Cup of Hockey a few years back.
Let's Go Buffalo!!!

It's not even remotely the same thing, that team was horribly put together and didn't even include some of the best Americans, Phil Kessel somehow didn't even make the team and then all the best young Americans were on the stupid North American team which had our best 23 and under players. That whole tournament was setup like a joke.

I think women's sports is taken more seriously in the USA, and that's great on us. Combine that with less competition in most sports and it's a good recipe for success for us.

Who do we have to thank for that? The NHL. As incompetent as the USSF.

The week in Toronto was great. Fly Porter!
The USA team, not so much.
If the IIHF do it again, replace NA & TE with the Czechs, Slovaks or Germans. Or have a team of Quebecois!

The IIHF didn't run the tournament, the NHL and the player's association did. The next one might not happen in 2020 anyway if we get another lockout.

If it does ever happen, I would like to see it in Toronto again.

Can you really blame the NHL for not sending their players? They have to interrupt their season and they dont even get a bump in viewership from the casual fan that enjoyed Olympic hockey.

I mean… yes? It’d be like the Premier League or Barca/Real preventing their players from going to the Summer Olympics. And yes, that happens, and the teams do get blamed for it. Do they, or the NHL care? No, but literally the least we can do is complain about it on the internet!

Not letting players go in a leagues offseason is different. The NHL wouldnt have a problem letting thier players play if they moved hockey to the Summer games.
