#1359654 Random Player Name Thread 2020

Posted by iced1776 on Yesterday, 01:04 PM

You are partially right there. While Tata might know some leagues and players, he does have a large network of coaches and agents that he has worked with for a long time and has established a source of players. Something that very few MLS coaches or SDs do

Tata's reputation was probably the most important factor in pulling the likes of Almiron and Barco. He had just wrapped up stints coaching Barca and Argentina, players want to learn from a guy like that. Nobody wants to leave home to play for Chris Armas.

Why should that fact placate anyone or excuse anything ???  A)  It has hurt us in the past  B) WE NEED TO DO BETTER, ESPECIALLY AFTER THE SHIT SEASON  WE JUST HAD

I'm only saying that in response to the widespread fear that we're not signing anyone this offseason because it hasn't happened by January 22. I'm not saying its ideal or even good, I'm just trying to talk some fans off the ledge here because this isn't a unique position for us to be in.

Unless there is some crazy surprise signing that comes out of nowhere, this is shaping up to be the worst offseason I've ever seen from this club.

Just remember that Denis said "We've been given the green light to spend". Well, we're waiting Denis......

This fact has done nothing to calm anyone down yet but here it goes:

Red Bulls have not made an international signing at or before this point in the off-season for the last decade. If you've just lost faith in Hamlett/Red Bull that's one story, but don't let the timing alone scare you.

#1359499 Kemar Lawrence wants out

Posted by iced1776 on 19 January 2020 - 10:27 PM

Honesty, how much trouble are we in if Lawrence leaves?

The guy can cover an entire side of the field on his own, freeing up 9 other outfield players to do more interesting things. As far as pure athleticism, the only other player I've ever watched who compares to Lawrence's ability to cover an entire sideline on his own is Dani Alves.

... and it woud of happen if they benched murillo and co.

Btw.. let us know when you provide a useful comment

Armas DID bench Murillo and Lade. He went with the youth choice, exactly as you asked for.

That youth choice was Buckmaster, who was worse than both of the guys he replaced.

Its really easy to say "how much worse can it get?" when you're talking about struggling players, but the reality is that it can often get a whole lot worse! That's why most of the other guys were reserves in the first place.

I'm sorry you don't like it but the complaining from the fan base is here to stay unless the team actually goes out and signs players. You're just going to have to get used to it or avoid all social media/forums from now on.

There are dozens of people at this very moment talking about the Flores signing on Red Bull Facebook pages. To think all of them are going to stop complaining because you don't like reading it, lol

He's not saying nobody should complain, he's saying you shouldn't drop the same complaint in every single thread no matter what the topic is.

For the love of god if we blow our winter transfer budget on a keeper....

#1358867 Hamlett is in so far over his head

Posted by iced1776 on 09 January 2020 - 03:03 PM

Is anyone else getting the feeling that outside of Hyuri Henrique, Sowe and the draft picks today...that the club if finished making signings for this offseason?

Red Bulls have not made an international signing before mid-January in a long time, possibly ever. I looked back to 2010 and zero international signings had been made at this point in the off-season. Almost all came in late January or February, a small handful in March as well.

If you've just flat out lost every last ounce of trust in Hamlett, that's one thing. But don't let the timing scare you.

#1358812 2020 "Super"Draft Thread

Posted by iced1776 on 09 January 2020 - 01:22 PM

What's the #10 draft spot worth in MLS these days? $15k in allocation dollars? Pack of gum, maybe?

Patrick Seagrist is the pick, left back from Marquette

#1358750 Stroud and Lema to first team

Posted by iced1776 on 08 January 2020 - 10:49 AM

So for those of us who don't watch the II's, whats the scouting report on them? The talk around them has seemed positive.

They'll both be depth options in the midfield and shouldn't be expected to contribute a ton this year. Think Bezecourt instead of Adams.

Stroud has been putting up excellent numbers in USL which is where the positivity has come from, but the gap between that and MLS is still so huge that its tough to predict how the transition will go.

#1358660 Nicolas Castillo

Posted by iced1776 on 06 January 2020 - 05:49 PM

lmao this is the ElMetroTri's resounding player evaluation from the Random Player thread

"He's been shit, and he stole money from us."

Why did LA Vox's tweet say that we don't have cap space for Castillo? He good enough to take up three DP spots or something?

#1358566 A club that exists to sell players

Posted by iced1776 on 04 January 2020 - 11:01 AM

Really looks like the intention is to use NY purely for player development. Just as players get good they'll get gone.

There are differences between being a selling club and being a club that exists to sell players, like how much of a priority is selling players vs getting on field value out of them in the form of wins and hardware.

If we were really looking just to cut and run on any player as soon as an offer came along, wouldn't we have sold Long this past summer? To me that's a perfect example that we are capable of prioritizing a trophy over cash.

The idea that we're a farm team is coming entirely from Adam's $3M fee, which many thought was too low. I still think they're being overly dismissive of the sell-on fee... I don't think many people will complain about the deal if we get 33% of his next eight-figure transfer.

#1358538 Leo Lopes?

Posted by iced1776 on 03 January 2020 - 12:29 PM

Lopes only joined Hull this summer and has played in almost every game for them at the age of 21. RB is going to have to seriously overpay to get him out of that sort of situation, Hull probably sees this kid as a Premier League target in the future.

#1358523 Hamlett is in so far over his head

Posted by iced1776 on 03 January 2020 - 09:20 AM

A week before new signings come, the social media manager will tweet . Stroud and Lema will be announced, Sims will come back and Hamlett will say that the team is waiting for summer for an impact signing. The team will sign a couple of guys like Epps after training camp. And well all complain some more about the sad state of the team.

I feel like they've taken a step back from making even that loose of a promise. My bet is they go with the "we believe in this group we have now" route to try and placate fans.

#1358391 Hamlett is in so far over his head

Posted by iced1776 on 29 December 2019 - 11:40 PM

The guy jumped from asst coach to sporting director

Ya know when you phrase it like that, at any proper sports team in the world this could have caused a god damn riot.
