Seeing Atlanta fans comments on social media makes me thankful for this forum. I don't always agree with a lot of you guys, but their fanbase might actually be insane.

Atlanta fans ... might actually be insane.

We have come across a lot of delusional fanbases over the years. DC, Seattle, Philly, NYC ... Why not Atlanta?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Oh what fun is to watch the Red Bulls win away, hey!

Was at the game. Fun time. Atlanta fans didn't yell at me at all. I had my RBNY shirt on. One guy said FU in the bathroom, but I just laughed. Gotta give them credit though, they get close to 50,000 each game and we can barely get two sellouts in a row.

Perused the Atlanta reddit this morning and couldn't stop laughing. Glad BWP and the rest gave them a piece of humble pie, because hoo boy do they think highly of themselves.

Besides the BWP goals, a tense but sad game. Pulling for Kemar, he is a warrior, but if he can't play for a while then we are incredibly thin on the outside.

what do people think of the BWP penalty?  I think it was soft but the guy did hold him.  I think he felt the contact and went down.

That was a fortuitous call because we getting very outplayed from 20-40.  Huge saves by Meara one of which he was in no mans land.

Held one of the other league leader in goals (Martinez) to no goals.  The call back on his goal was correct call.

OVerturn on Laurentowitz was correct as well.

How the foul on Valot is not DOGSO is hard to understand (I don't think Garza was in position to stop the 1 on 1 - maybe hinder from behind/side).

That bounce on the first ATL goal was off Adams arm?  I am guessing they played advantage.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Crazy game.

We gave up some great early chances (although I still think that the 2nd Martinez chance was offside but whatever) and Meara came up big.  THen they score on one of the more unlucky bounces.

I really don't know why the Atlanta players were going nuts after the game.  The only call I think they have a gripe with is BWP going down and getting the penalty.  There was clearly something there so even that one was debatable.  The Martinez goal that would have made it 2-0 was clearly a foul.  Parker is in position to get that ball and his foot gets clipped.   Everything else was called right.

BWP great job on the first 2 goals...   Kaku great game as usaul.  Valot starting to seem like one of those up and down players but will still take him over Muyl.  I like that he's pretty good in the air.

Parker and Long were great, as was Taxi and Murillo.  The more I see Murillo and the more I think he's just too good for this league.  Kid is ridiculously good with the ball.  Should be playing at higher levels.

Adams and Davis I actually didn't think were great.  Adams had some great moments but others I wish he was more aggressive in defending as compared to just keeping the shape.  Didn't think Davis was good for the most part... Took poor defensive angles a bunch of times.  Still a huge fan of Davis though.

Either way, Atlanta is a team that I'd prefer to not see in the playoffs.  Or at least be home.  Let someone else bunker and beat them.

Oh, and I think Taxi is going to be fine.  Doctors almost always know the situation on the field, the tests afterwards are only to confirm.  WHen Marsch was coming back from seeing Taxi before going into the tunnel, he seemed to mouth to someone that he's OK.  Plus, said as much after the game.  Mildly more worried about Adams.

Targeting the leading goalscorer of the opponent is a time-honored tactic. BWP gets banged around a lot, not just in this game. The ref used VAR here and kept the call. He obviously saw enough, as he used VAR twice to reverse himself. Later, BWP showed what he can do, when not being held. Twice.

Oh agree totally.  I personally don't see it being a bad call.  Just saying that it's the only call I can see Atlanta fans having a gripe about.  Thought the Martinez foul on Parker was as clear as day.  Parker get that ball easily, but just got clipped yet Atlanta fans seem to have a big issue with that.

Thrilled that BWP seems to be getting some more respect now.  Guy has earned it in this league more than anyone at this point.

And screw Garza for that tackle.  Fully expect him to play in 2 weeks because it seemed like he was faking his shoulder thing to take away focus from his brutal tackle that could have really hurt Davis.

Pre-VAR, the whistle probably blows as soon as Parker goes down, as it is obvious that something caused him to trip. Now, the ref can let play continue and review it if there is a goal. Same for offsides.

Absolutely. He took an almost sheepish look at his bench, while on the ground.

^ this.

The ref didnt even watch the VAR video. He poked his head in and watched for like 5 seconds. This leads me to believe he knew what he was going to call the whole time, and didnt really need to see the video. Parker got tripped. The right call was made.

:o  YOU SAID OFFSIDE AS A PLURAL! I committed this sin on the RB Discussion Group on Facebook and oh! the lecturing responses. One guy actually called me a cretin for my wordcrime.  First and last post. Buncha dweebs.

But I hate the way VAR affects the game - flow and officiating. Think a much better solution is 2 linesmen on each half and an ump running on each endline for goals and monitoring all the chaos in the box. More eyes for the fast ass modern game, and the game can just flow with increased confidence that the right calls are mostly being made.

It does hurt the flow but it's not awful.

Soccer so often comes down to 1 or 2 significant plays a game so it is great to have more looks at those couple plays.  Will always be a fan of VAR.  An even bigger fan if they use it correctly.  And so far with us, it's been a huge plus.

The Valencia offside call back in 2000 still hurts, all these years later. Would I feel better if VAR at least looked at it for a second opinion? I think so.

Stewart in 2004, too. Talk about absolute shit.

Reminded me of the Rivas penalty against RSL. Soft, but fair.
