I would have liked the article to also chart the ten Championship clubs, which included Hearts, Hibs & Rangers in 2014/15. As I noted above, only 7 clubs averaged home crowds above 5k this past season. You really have to question the league structure, when 8 of 12 Prem clubs drew under 5K, and especially question the need for 4 divisions, when the bottom 2 tiers can't average 1,000 fans.
Perhaps it's time to bite the bullet, and re-structure into two 10-team leagues, dropping the bottom 22 into regional leagues. Have Fall & Spring seasons, with 18 games each, so there are two champions annually, with a Grand Final at the end of Spring May for another trophy.
If the current problems continue, could the entire structure collapse? Where would the Glasgow & Edinburgh clubs wind up? England?
