#1379097 Bento Estrela

This brings me absolutely 0 excitement. No reason to think he wont get shipped overseas as soon as he becomes good enough.

#1379096 New jersey for 2021

The 2015/16 white/red was the best white/red

As long as its back to the White/Red/White combo, its a W for me. It's kind of been a mess recently wearing grey, red, and black at home

If they were going to go this generic I wish they would have at least stuck with red sleeves.  Accepting that the vertical stripes are gone, the reserve-Arsenal that they wore across a few kits was at least specific to them.

Agree. The reverse Arsenal was my favorite look recently.

#1378777 Is Yearwood a worthy DP?

Posted by rhactl7 on 04 February 2021 - 10:53 AM

Yea, I have to say I was disappointed in Yearwood as well. A nice player with upside. But did not play up to a DP level last season. Nor does he have a DP resume. Gotta give him a full year to judge, but so far it looks like a pretty bad DP signing IMO.

#1378425 We couldn't consistently sell out games with Henry

Posted by rhactl7 on 29 January 2021 - 10:59 AM

it hilarious that people dont view RB cleaning house or demoting every staff member not De Grandpre over the last 18 months as an admittance of failure to meet RB's goals.

It's actually unfathomable that De Grandpre still has a job. in 2015 the guy laid out his plan for "RBA to sell out every game in 5 years". 5 years later and we have half the Arena tarped off, and cant even get close to filling the remaining open seats. He couldn't have done any worse at his job. What a joke.

#1378390 We couldn't consistently sell out games with Henry

I've had this conversation more than a few times: "Oh you're a Red Bulls fan? I've been to a game..."

And then...

...train ride/s were kinda long

...really nice stadium actually, but nothing around it

...assorted dumping on the quality of play, severity depending on how much EPL they watch

...has since been back maybe once for a USA game.

I mean these 2 things are definitely true. But as shitty as Harrison was when RBA was built, it is finally looking like it has a promising future. The new PATH stations are a huge improvement, and the next phase of construction near the arena supposedly includes restaurants/bars ect. That would go a long way in raising attendance IMO.

#1378006 Juventus to poach Clark?

Posted by rhactl7 on 25 January 2021 - 02:40 PM

Its a complicated situation. You could say the $2-3M fee is low...but on the other hand, this is a player that we basically just signed a short time ago. And he ONLY signed with us because of our connection/ability to sell him to Europe. So given the context, it sounds like a pretty good deal. We should hope the deal has a large sell on fee like Adams deal does.

I think we will have to wait and see how this Red Bull strategy plays out. Red Bull is slowly earning a VERY good reputation (both in US and and Europe) as a top academy and place for top young players. New York should be even more appealing to top American talent because of the direct pipeline options to Europe.

Obviously, the difference between Leipzig/Salzburg and New York is that those teams have re-invested the money into their teams and are top spenders/competitors in their own league. Is that going to happen here too? We will see....

#1377505 Kaku wants out

Posted by rhactl7 on 18 January 2021 - 04:03 PM

I just don't think he had any major memorable moments as a player. Sure he played well at times but I can't recall a specific goal or play that I'll remember 10 years from now but...I'll always remember him kicking that ball into that fan's face

We won a Supporters Shield with the guy. Might not remember the specifics 10 years from now, but top of my head he had that goal vs NYCFC like 1 min into the game, had a beauty goal at home to give us a win vs DC Scum, and got a goal against Philly on our 2nd to last game in 2018 to give us a chance to win the shield on the final day.

He didn't reach his full potential, but he was far from a bust.

RB should sign him to a 1-day deal so he can retire here.

lol at thinking RB would treat a team legend the proper way.

Its either gotta be red, or back to the classic white/red/white look. I don't want white with black trim...

#1374726 How will the season end? TSM after MPPF

BWP 90th+ min MLS Cup winning goal. Does heel clicks in front of an empty South Ward.

#1374615 Gerhard Struber no longer a rumour

Posted by rhactl7 on 12 November 2020 - 01:06 PM

hoping Gerhard and Deitrich can watch a playoff game at home or maybe Hartford....

I am loling at the idea of Deitrich (who has never attended a game) showing up at freezing cold Rentschler field in Novermber for a "Toronto home game" with limited capacity in the middle of a pandemic.

#1374545 Metro - Columbus Playoff Thread

Posted by rhactl7 on 09 November 2020 - 11:46 PM

I still don't understand why anyone listens to those broadcasts in English. Like, I don't know a word of Spanish beyond the absolute basics, and I never ever watch those broadcasts in anything other than Spanish. They're fucking terrible in English. You could mic me up in my living room after 6 beers and I would do a better job.

If I ever hear Ramses Sandoval refer to the field as "the green rectangle" again, I'd consider casting myself off a bridge.

lol for real...if its not a Red Bulls game I'll usually just listen in Spanish too. It's just awful.

#1373582 Shield will NOW be awarded this year

Posted by rhactl7 on 20 October 2020 - 10:01 PM

Honestly, the reason we're discussing it again is because of the reaction to the announcement, but even more than that, it's because Dan posted that it was awarded in 2001 even though not everyone played the same number of games. I'll be honest and say I did not know that and that changed my mind on it. That's precedent in my opinion.

Our original idea was to protect the integrity of the Shield due to an imbalanced number of games played. Now that we know this has been handled already, we are looking at it again.

How could the committee not know that fact about their own award? That's less than 20 years ago.

#1372433 Are we a "massive club"?

Posted by rhactl7 on 30 September 2020 - 08:33 AM

A local bloke and his take...

Maybe it's because I've been an MLS fan since middle school and had been subjected to Europoseurs shitting on the league for so long, but it's so surreal to me hear fans a level away from the Premier League saying things like NY Red Bulls are a "massive club". And I know that players/managers say that stuff all the time, but what else are they going to say when they join the team? It's weird to me to hear supporters of these clubs saying that.

If I had to guess, most Europeans probably still think of us as the Red Bulls who had Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill, Marquez ect. And it's New York....I don't think many know about the change in direction the last 5 years, lack of spending, and tarping off half the stadium. At least we have a good reputation over seas....
