Don't forget to check out the threads for the various pick up games being played:
S&P
Mar Vista Soccer

Occasionally there is a W&M or B&G open pick up game.

So what's happening at Columbia Park these days?

I remember there used to be a regular pickup game at 7:00 on Thursdays.

Found it - According to the Yahoo Group SoccerPickUpGames, there is a game at 6:30 PM on Wednesdays in Columbia park.

I'll check it out this week, and report back.

So we've got Columbia park on Wednesdays, and *Hopefully* W&M in 'Gundo on Sundays.

Speaking of old legs - Do you know what the South Bay Peninsula League is like?

http://www.sbpsl.com/

They have a Div 40 league

There's also the South Bay Adult Soccer League, which has a 35 to 45.

Yes, the league is very good. Well organized, very competitive. The guys you ran with at Campus El Segundo that Thursday night are some of the players in that league. Some are former NCAA players, a few were youth players in club teams back in Iran/Colombia/Peru etc.

Those guys at full strength would totally school a Best XI from LARS. I wouldn't see a minute of playing time with them at any position if I went out for their Sunday squad. There are two 50+ guys on the team that could easily have been MVP of the 562 Cup. Little quick fuckers with a great mind for the game honed over some 45 years of practice...

Now this team, "South Bay All Stars" cleans the clocks of all the other teams, so I'm guessing the rest of the teams in the league have guys more like you and me... Joe wanted me to stay practicing with him so I DIDN'T go play for the other teams...he's a cunning little fucker! He's a serious pain in the ass. FRAM has dominated the league for years, but Hollywood United and South Bay All Stars went to the Championship this past season so things are changing. The lower ranked teams seem to stay lower ranked, except SBA, and one or two teams fold every year and new ones pop up.

Yeah, he was a bit too intense for me to deal with on a regular basis.

I entered my contact info as a free agent on their website. They're last scheduled game for their Summer season was yesterday, so I would imagine they will have playoffs, a week or two break, and startup again sometime soon.

Now would be a good time to check out other teams at practice.

Do you have contact info for anyone else in that league?

No, but I guarantee Joe will call you first, to get first crack at you before other teams...

EDIT: I am willing to bet all the other teams have an equally maniacal leader. There's no such thing as chilled competitive soccer, except in LARS.

I sent a message to their generic league email address. We'll see if anybody contacts me.

And yeah - I've seen many other maniacal sports team leaders who make Joe look calm, cool and collected. Joes' team (SBAS?) is currently 3rd in the league. So based on the skill level of those guys I ran with that one night, plus the team practicing next to us, I'm pretty confident, I'll be able to find a suitable team.

In a bid to get as much play time as I want + not having to deal with a maniacal manager, I'll probably go check out a few of the mid table teams.

They just played their last league game yesterday, so playoff schedule should be announced soon.
