#1353900 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by rhactl7 on Yesterday, 12:59 PM

Actually I keep forgetting that we DID spend money this year.  A team coming off a shield, in WIN NOW mode, spends most of their transfer money on a $2M striker prospect who cant even get minutes when BWP AND BRIAN WHITE get injured. Talk about a horrible use of money.....

I am not particularly married to Chris Armas, but anyone who thinks firing him comes even remotely close to fixing the brunt of this team's issues is delusional.

Its a combination of the coach and management for sure.

Lowest payroll in the league, no replacement for Tyler Adams, an aging out of form BWP, using our 3rd DP spot on a guy who has like 5 games to intergrate himself into a new squad.....these things are not his fault.

The defense (that was amazing last season) looking like shambles, change in identity/not pressing, consistently playing Lade/Buckmaster, sitting Kemar Lawrence for the sake of "continuity", not playing CCJ consistently, other things that I can't remember off the top of my head right now...these things are his fault

I think we underrate what Jesse March did.

Took a squad that had the lowest payroll in the league and led them to the best season in MLS history. Just think about that. We didn't have the most talented team but he got the best out of everybody.

That being said I don't think Chris is a good coach and I think we should move on.

Well...clearly we aren't gonna finish top 3. It is big for us to finish in the 4 spot to get at least 1 home game for the playoffs. This game HAS to be a win.

Biggest win of the season!!!

Robles, Murillo, and CCJ were MOTM

Classic performance by Robles. Big saves when we needed them. Fighting through injury. Wouldn't be opposed to start Meara against Plastic City to give Robles a rest.

Murillo had his best game of the year. He really is SO good going forward. The amount of chances he creates as a defender is unbelievable. I think his recent dip in form made us forget just how good he can be. He needs to start from here on out.

CCJ was like a Tyler Admas 2.0 out there. Obviously he is nowhere near that level yet, but you can see the potential. Seems he is getting more comfortable as the season goes on. He should be starting every game too.

I thought Royer looked good playing higher up he field again. Nice to have a different look instead of ALWAYS having a single striker. Will make it harder for teams to plan against us if we have this option. It is great to finally have a solid PK taker. I don't think we've have one in the RBA era...

Was anyone else listening to the Unimas English feed? The announcers said 10 times how Tarek "must have said something to the ref" to get the second yellow. How did they not realize that he was already on a yellow? Even after halftime, they still didn't realize...

Won the easiest money of my life last night. Had $50 to win $200 on Felipe to get booked  :D

#1351988 Murillo vs Buckmaster

Posted by rhactl7 on 19 August 2019 - 11:06 AM

I don't understand the love for Buckmaster either. He's been OK. He's already been at fault for a few goals though. I understand Murillo has been in bad form bad mentality / whatever you want to call it. But he still provides offense gong forward. I was fine with Buckmaster starting to make a statement...but as a full time switch? Murillo is still very talented - he made the all star game last season for a reason.

I agree with you. However, the new playoff format concerns me, in terms of us getting hot and making a run. Of course, this playoff format would have benefited us immensely last year. Such is life as a Metro fan. But, I'd really like to see us finish Top 3 in the East.

A playoff format (that would have benefited us) changing one year too late? You don't say...

#1350903 Young premier league winger = Josh Sims

Posted by rhactl7 on 06 August 2019 - 02:42 PM

This is basically the bare minimum of what we should have have done. We still have a DP spot open and we still are 2nd to last on the league payroll. Our expectations are pretty low (rightfully so at this point) if we are happy with this.

Its encouraging to see that Southampton fans were high on him...but he also barley started for Reading last year.

The absolute best case scenario would be for him to be a Daniel Royer type...that's really wishful thinking though.

Realistically I think we can expect his to start on the wing opposite Royer in place of Muyl/Ettiene

CCJ and Davis both had poor games. Turned the ball over a ton. Especially in the first half. CCJ was better in the 2nd half. Nice assist on the 2nd goal. And we have to remember the kid is only 19 years old. Not everyone can come in and be Tyler Adams.

Alex Muyl has quietly been having a very good year. He's not the most skilled guy or the best finisher. But the guy is a workhorse. And you need guys like that in a high pressing system. He knows the right angles to take and when to pressure. It seems like he's had a LOT of key passes this year in plays that lead to goals. Especially long balls in behind the defense. Perfect ball to Brian White to set up the PK.

Is Brian White the starting striker going forward? I would have started BWP last game but it seems like Armas really favors White right now. And White has been playing well enough. BWP has come off the bench in the last 4 games. BWP is notorious for slow starts though, so maybe he is taking that into account. Anyway, its a good problem to have...

Danny Royer. What a player. Can't take a better PK than he did. Johnson guessed correctly and still had no chance. And the header was sublime too.

Best result we could have hoped for. Plastic City played a very strong lineup, went 120 mins and lost. On to Sunday....

Come on now. People can wear whatever they want to the game. Imagine going to the Plastic Pitch and having Yankees security tell you can't wear red into the game... If they want to increase the away ticket allotment so they are all in the same place, that's a better idea.

Outrageous that this game wasn't played at RBA.

First of all, we play on grass. MSU field is turf. PERIOD. THAT'S IT. That's the ONLY reason you need. The surface makes a huge difference. Why the hell would we choose to play a home game on a surface we aren't used to? Add to that, the fact that NE does play on turf. In addition to that, the different environment, crowd, backdrop, ect. These little things matter. The players love playing at RBA, we have an amazing record there. There is no reason not to play there.

And then they decide to field out this lineup? We don't have a game in like 18 days. There is no reason for Kaku, Royer, ect to be on the bench.

Results is one thing, but this debacle is something that was completely within management's control. They chose to do this. Will be calling up my rep and complaining for the first time ever.

Is the principle. Our attendance sucks. We know that. Its only gonna be a few thousand for a game like this. A half full South Ward and other loyals scattered throughout. How about they actually show appreciation for those people. Why not make it another dollar hot dog night at RBA to entice people to go. No, instead they inconvenience everybody and oh hey, actually make us pay for the ticket now! And you wont be able to sit in your normal seat, or park in your normal spot, ect.
