Huh? Pretty clear hand contact, so under new rules, it would be 100% disallowed.

Even under the current/old rules, I think it seems pretty intentional the way he turns his body/left his arm hanging. I thought it was weird to not even have the ref look at replay.

Since the new IFAB rule changes went into affect after the MLS season started, MLS defers them to next year.

Yeah, I'm aware. Look at what I'm responding to.

Yes, under the new laws it would definitely be disallowed. But MLS hasnt adopted the new laws yet.

Thats all.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Luis held the ball for quite a while, as the ref presumably spoke with the VAR. From what I have seen, ref only goes to the screen when he is going to reverse the call.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

You were in the stadium and are correct. Red was consulting with VAR official.

Not sure what your initial "didn't matter" comment referred to.

Obviously VAR didn't disagree with the initial call on the field. Doesn't mean it's the right call.

I certainly thought there was intent in Morris's arm movement, which would mean it was a handball by current MLS rules.

The didnt matter comment was about........imo, that call didnt matter because we were going to lose regardless.

It was obviously a debatable call. Intent is never a consideration for a referee on any call. Refs are specially trained to never try and figure out intent for any call on the field. 90% of commentators get that wrong all the time.

What makes the old Law especially confusing was/is the word deliberate. It asks the referee to consider: 1. The movement of hand towards ball (not ball toward hand) 2. The distance, to see if it was unexpected or not.

I think you know the old and new Laws already, so I was posting it for others.

I am using "intentional" and "deliberate" interchangeably. Anyway, just a thing of the past now.

Congrats, Sean Davis. You're now in a 3-way tie for most own goals in team history.

In fairness, that one OG against NE in '07 was waaaaay more on Conway than it was on Mendes...
