Seriously. WTF guys.

Dempsey (paraphrasing): In my career we went down to El Salvador 3 times. We got two draws and a loss. We could have played better but this is a good result.

maybe for the teams dempsey was a part of but this team is light years better.  Berhalter should have gotten a W with the talent was made available to him and he messed this game up. it should have been a win.

My philosophy with qualifying is that you get three points at home and aim for at least a point in the road.

That's everyone's philosophy.

We were clearly the better team with better scoring chances but we couldnt finish. Dest had a poor game.

US had 13 shots, but only 2 on goal: Dest roller at 18:08 & Acosta header at 75:25. ES had 1 SOG.

Just get points and qualify.

Goes without saying.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Are they? They have to prove that. Sometimes guys play better for their clubs and it has nothing to do with the coach. Dest for instance simply looked like he didnt give a shit.

He made 2-3 questionable lineup choices. A bunch of guys played not great.

Doesnt matter if the coach was arena, Bradley, Klinsy or Gregg. They all make questionable choices and sometimes some of their players play not great.

Young team. Last stage of qualifying . We got a road point. Need 3 at home.

Jason Kreis is a perfect example. A stud in a Dallas jersey, not so much in a Nats jersey.

It mattered greatly in last qualifiers. Arena's failure will be hard to top (bottom). Let's not disrespect other coaches by clubbing him together with them.

CONCACAF road matches are "unique" compared to what a majority of the roster is used to dealing with, a steady hand or two on the tiller could be the difference between a result or not. Last night's game could be given a passing grade, win at home/tie on the road and all that, but another flat performance on Sunday against a strong Canada team ratchets up the pressure beyond the norm going into Honduras where results have been less than encouraging of late in qualifying.

Arena came onto a sinking ship and it sank so giving all the blame for the last cycle to him seems a bit unfair. Losing a must win game to a far lesser team is all on him but that team's fate was sealed long before it set foot in Trinidad.

No one is blaming him for the whole cycle. Yea, we shouldnt have been where we were going into the T&T match. But, come on, it was Trinidad & Tobago and they only needed a draw. Also, it was Arenas 18th match in charge after taking over for Klinsmann, so he had plenty of time to right the ship.

He took a veteran team, based on the concept that CONCACAF qualifying is unique. It didnt work. Bierhalter took talent over experience and didnt get the win, but at least came away with a point. If Arenas veterans had gotten a point, he would still probably be coaching the Nats.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. How could the team's fate been sealed long before, when all they had to do is draw a pathetic team to change that fate? This just doesn't make sense. If she ship already was sinking, then let Jurgen finish the job. Had they done that, US wouldn't have to miss last WC. It takes incredible amount of ineptitude to finish 5th in the qualifiers, given the talent we had.

It was really like a self fulfilling prophecy. After losing two games to the teams actually better than US at the time (Mexico and CR), they had an apocalyptic vision of US missing the WC. To make sure this nearly impossible scenario is avoided, they fire the current coach, bring Arena, start fresh, actually causing this vision to be realized. There was no sinking ship. Just an out of touch coach that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Poor generation of talent.

Terrible coach in Klinsy.

Better coach could have gotten the result in T&T.

That team should have never been in the position, regardless of who the coach was, of needing anything from the final group match or having to rely on the results of other matches. Unfortunately they put themselves in that exact position. US Soccer made a move to stop the bleeding after a poor start to the final round but it was too little, too late. The loss to TNT falls squarely on Arena's shoulders since the team really didn't play like a desperate team would be expected to play like against a pathetic opponent. There didn't appear to be much urgency at all on the US side of the ball, maybe they were content with the prospect of having to settle for a play-in match to qualify. Who knows. Losses in qualifying on the road against Mex and CR are to be expected, getting schooled at home isn't. All that added up in the end to the team failing to step up when it counted most.

Berhalter played a lot of dudes out of position. Seems like he is doing an osario impersonation. For example, Dest is a RB playing LB for the usmnt. Reyna is best at CM and was playing LF/RF. Aaronson was having a bad game in CM as a result berhalter moves him to RF and takes out Konrad who was having a good game. Acosta gets subbed as a cm and then moves him to RB. This is crazy.

Getting a point in ES is not okay. Dont give their youthfulness as an excuse. They have already played some very big games in their euro teams. These guys dont get shook.

If spain goes to Estonia and gets a point in wcq, you dont hear the Spaniards say good point on the road. The head coach would get torched especially if he plays guys out of position.

Berhalter needs to keep things simple. Look at spain amd Italy national teams. They play guys the same position that they play at their club teams. Those head coaches know they they dont have a lot of time to implement new complex schemes. They keep things simple. Berhalter needs to figure this out. At some point, talent will only get you so far and tactical execution is what will determine who wins the concacaf group.

Now, we have a must win game vs a very good Canadian team.

Yup. Gregg played guys out of position and it hurt us.

Still got a point. Tie on the road win at home.

Hopefully we play guys in their positions this time. And win.

the only time a tie would be acceptable is if we got a tie in Mexico. every other game needs to be a win; especially early on in qualifications. there is little room for error to avoid another trinidad & tobago fiasco.

if we dont beat canada, then berhalter might need to get fired to save our chances at qualifying.

He has done an increasingly great job calling USL games this year. Many Miami FC, Hartford matches.
