“As far as the Open Cup goes, I love the Open Cup because I'm American. I was playing the Open Cup 17 years ago. But I can tell you right now, I am 100 percent judged by my results in MLS from my bosses and Austria and not from the Open Cup,” Petke said on Friday.

“I can tell you right now if we win the Open Cup, I don't even know if I'd get a recognition from Austria because they just don't understand it, know what I mean? So that's where I have to sometimes separate myself and realize what's my job title? What's my job description? At the end of the day, the Open Cup always calls you back and I think it's a great event. I think it can be done better. In the future hopefully it becomes bigger. But it's the oldest competition and I love it.”

Is there any in this rout with authority to treat with me? Or indeed with wit to understand me?

Yes Mike, it will only get better by ignoring it and not treating it like a an important cup.

Exactly. This isn't some unique competition on the world scale.

I'd imagine that they aren't literally incapable of understanding the concept behind the competition, moreso that they just don't care whether or not the team succeeds in it.  That's the case with a lot of things when it comes to the guys actually in Austria though, isn't it?  Just gotta hope that the guys they put in charge on this side of the Atlantic care enough to make an effort, and I trust Petke/Roxburgh to do that way more than Hans/Soler.

Exactly.  I think Mike's overstating things.  If we win it, he'll get a nice pat on the back, but it doesn't excuse him from the bigger goal.  Its not that they don't care about it, its just that winning the MLS Cup dwarfs it in importance, by far.

Of course Austria doesn't care about the Open Cup.

The Open Cup is about winning soccer games for the sake of winning, to play more games and to please the supporters. The games aren't on TV and are barely covered in the news. The Open Cup does not support the Brand. Therefore, Red Bull does not care about the Open Cup.

Seriously, Red Bull needs to get the fuck out of our club.

Pathetically true. Winning trophies isn't important to Red Bull...selling the lifestyle brand is.

How soon they forget, what happened after the last time they didn't take it seriously. I mean Petke coached that team, you think he would know better.

Then why the hell did they use so much money on the training facility?  That gets the brand very little notoriety.   Clearly does a lot for the soccer team though.

I'm not even shocked by this. The oldest tournament in this country and ownership essentially shits on it. I hope the team makes this somewhat of a priority and does try to win it.
