"Of course, his former team, the New York Red Bulls, are certainly hurting on the defensive side as well. However, philosophical differences with head coach Mike Petke — and a demanding salary — will surely put him out of reach for a return."

Really?????

Get rid of Armando and Eck and give him what he wanted.

Some background for you ... an interview I did with Markus Holgersson a few months back talking about his departure...

And Petke spoke about those differences on Seeing Red! ... speed up to the 28th minute:

still not his type of CB.  salary demands met and whatever, holgersson will still be holgersson in terms of playing the position. and petke doesn't want that type of player for the style he wants and the way he wants his CBs to play.  he was a fan favorite for a bunch of us, sure. but a physical CB he never was. and if that's what coach wants, then so be it.

I really hope that Petke revises his opinion after seeing our struggles with 3 "physical" CBs this season. But he seems like a pretty conservative guy, it might take him a year or two to change his mind.

Watching Armando play is brutal. Petke, please bring in a CB who can play well with Olave. Changes need to be made to this team. Duvall is an improvement over Kimura.

Hulk's "style" didn't hurt us en route to the league title last year.  Disappointed to see him go, disappointing that there won't be a reunion.

he just joined Anorthosis Famagusta.  Apparently he signed with Helsingborgs about a month ago and played 4 matches before moving to Cyprus.

Funny to see so many people absolutely loving Holgersson now when so many people hated him early on.  Referred to as a statue quite consistently actually.

It's too bad that we couldn't get Holgersson back, if only to make Viking Army's name make sense again.

The criticism's were just. He played awful in the beginning of his Red Bull career. Looked immobile.

He was a player that needed time to adjust to the league. I think last year and the tail end of 2012 he was a stud and should have been kept.
