Lots of other teams are signing DPs and free agents right now, or being linked to players that could make an impact.

The season is right around the corner and the club has not improved in any area from last season. Still woefully short on defense. Weaker in midfield with Dax sold and no one brought in with the money his departure freed up. Short on offense, again.

And the club is not linked to any players either. Seriously what is going on with the FO? The media also seems to have taken the winter off, few news stories about anything.

As it stands we will not win MLS Cup again with management that refuses to strengthen the club's weak areas. Need to make some changes. Let's fucking go.

Last season, after Obafemi Martins left for China there was pressure from the fan base and the coach for the team to sign another DP before the season started. Lagerway's target, Lodero, wasn't available until the summer window so they waited. It sucked for them early, but worked out in the end. But he let the fans know there were going to sign a big player, just not yet.

It seems unlikely, but I guess there's a chance we're waiting until the summer window. Even if that was the plan, the big difference between the Seattle scenario and ours is communication between the team and the fans. Lagerway came out and said Seattle would sign a DP in the summer window and they were waiting because they felt they could do better there.

So even when their season was in the trash, Seattle fans had hope. There's no hope here. We won't get anything from Ali or Marsch. No one even knows if our Sporting Director is still around.

Lodiero proved to be a difference maker for Seattle. But there is no guarantee that Red Bull will even sign another big player and if they do, if the player will come good like Lodiero.

We signed Veron in the summer and he has been continuosly poor.

Which is why I wish the local soccer media would press more about the direction and state of the roster, instead of writing articles about who may/could be fired or is still here, like the way they have been mishandling the Ali reporting. Is it that difficult to ask what Ali has been up to?

Totally agree. I don't think it's their plan to sign a DP over the summer, just that if that was their plan, Seattle showed it can work. I was more criticizing the communication from the team. Even if they came out and said we're not signing anyone, we think our kids a year or so away from competing for an MLS Cup and we don't want to sign anyone ahead of them, that would be better than what we're getting.

Although I will say Seattle played Lodero from day one. Our summer signings in the Marsch/Ali era have had to sit behind Grella or were injured and didn't play enough.

If that's the direction we're going in, you can't say it publicly. Would play well with some fans (a lot will be up in arms about not trying to be competitive right now), but screws up any leverage in potential trade talks. And then, if they ever reconsider and bring anyone in, it would instantly send the message than the current roster is shit.

Everyone is paying too much attention to and looking for, basically, management platitudes from anyone in charge, but I don't get why? They don't really matter at all. I'm sure they'll sign someone in defense at some point (the sooner, the better, I agree). After last year, having 1 defender sub would be crazy and stupid. RB might be cheap and ruthless but not crazy and stupid.

I assure you Seattle fans were far more distressed mid-2016 than we are now.

Good thing I didn't renew this year... looking like it's going to be a rough season.

Now there's the good old fashioned doom and gloom that's been missing from this fan base recently. Its been a shitty off-season, but the only differences in last year's starting lineup and this year's are Dax for Davis and Duvall for Lade. We're 100% still a contender to top the Eastern conference.

Yes but we are still nailed on to crash our of the playoffs again.

Last year we had Dax and Duvall and couldn't get it done either. Are Davis and Lade the missing pieces all along? Doubt it.

I posted something in the first few weeks of last season when we were struggling. For years everyone complained how there was zero continuity from year to year. We used to clean house every off season and start fresh in the Spring, and people hated it. Now everyone bitches because we don't make any moves.

Yes there is a difference between continuity and dying on the vine at the hands of an FO with no one in charge, but fans will always complain.

Fair. Seattle fans had "hope" in the sense when their front office said they were going to go out and sign high level DP to make the team better, they could be believed.

I think if you find the right way to phrase it, you can make a statement.

The chicken little stuff is tiring.

We've fielded great teams over the last couple of seasons. Been one of the strongest teams in the league, consistently. We've just choked in the playoffs - which can be it's own subject of debate, but for our purposes here, I think it's kind of silly to assert that the FO isn't putting in the work to build a great team.

On paper, we have one the best teams in the league right now. Robles is in the USMNT camp, one season off being keeper of the year. Klejstan is MLS best XI and best American player in MLS in 2016. BWP is reigning golden boot winner. Collin is a top CB, all-star and former championship MVP. We have amazing youth in the pipeline, tons of HGPs.

I also still hold out that there is a plan for the cap space and GAM acquired from the Dax trade. It might take months for it to all come together, but they didn't make they move in a vacuum.

We don't need signings for the sake of signings. We don't need signings just to avoid threads like this one. We only need signings that improve our team and who fit our chemistry and system.

I don't care if we finish 5th in the east this year or if we get another SS. I don't care if we sign 3 DPs and sell out all of our home games. I just want a fucking MLS cup.

I don't think we'll at least myself I don't want moves for moves sake I just want time team to improve.

Can anyone look at the roster we had against Montreal and the roster we have tomorrow and even pretend we've improved?

Right now we're banking on BWP and SK16 to have MVP esque seasons Collin to always be fit, Lade once healthy to keep his late 2016 form, Davis who yes played well when asked last year but now to play 30+ games at that level.

I love that this team is focused on local youth guys and I hoe Adams and Etienne have breakout seasons, I'm just worried we haven't improved the roster.
