i mean we signed a winger as our DP on loan for the year, but when we play the 4-3-1-2 we dont really have use for a winger.  It's brilliant

#1352866 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by defendyourself on 27 August 2019 - 10:10 PM

Will start with this: Armas is not a great coach,

That being said i think he looks worse because he is following not just a great coach but when its all said and done he will probably be the best american born coach ever.

I think a decent amount of things about him are being overstated here on an absolute basis, while on a relative basis things to look at lot worse.  We have the 2nd lowest payroll in the league and thats a way bigger problem than Chris Armas is.  He has been crap with his subs last month but from from mid April to June every sub he brought on changed the game.  Tactically switching to 4-3-1-2 has unlocked Kaku which was a good move by him, but he also has struggled with in game adjustments and knowing when to press.

That being said the players at some point need to be responsible here too.  I was concerned about Amir this season when Armas told him not to get another yellow in CCL and 10 mins later he got a yellow to suspend himself.  From the second that happened Denis should have searched the world for a new right back, instead we have a second rounder thrown in the fire (who i think next year will be good though).  With BWPs decline we've only had one DP level player all yea, Danny Royer can't be the top scoring threat on a championship team in MLS.  Completing a pass is not something a coach should be working on in a professional setting and in general our team literally can't string 3 passes together.

However whether a coach sucks, is great or anything in between you can get fired for not getting the job done.

Really? You are comparing a fan to a profeaaional football club here. Sure, the Southampton manager doesn't wake up every day wondering what NYRB is doing, but I'm sure that a scout or a player development guy in the organization has an inkling that NYRB play a similar high pressing style to Bundesliga sensation RB Leipzig at the very least.

Ralf used to be the guys boss, he at worst is probably in contact with Ralf as long as him leaving wasn't hostile.

Honestly Buckmaster has been fine, its tough to expect someone to go from the USL to playing the best team in a league away from home in two weeks.  The injury/regression of Kyle Duncan has really impacted the team and its options for defensive depth.  By next year I think Buckmaster will be an average/good starter but he's not ready yet for these kind of games.

In a weird way though after last night i feel better about the team than i have in weeks.  the way we were pressing in middle third instead of front third at parts was good giving us space for transition game and allowing us to catch our breath at some points so we can press the whole first half.  problem is when we win the ball no one can blow by the other team on the counter.  Hopefully Sims fixes that.

I literally see no situation we string together 2/3 away wins and win MLS cup.

need the defense of last season to do that. maybe they wake up by then and Amir comes back into the 11.  Otherwise no chance.

Offensively I actually feel better than i did at the end of last season because Kaku is playing a lot better than he was then and Royer is having a good year.  Usually right winger is a hole unless Muyl gets hot or Sims brings the goods

all things being equal this is the best half we have played in a month.  while he sometimes isnt as clean as he can be technically, casseres is tank.

in the same vein, i think ppl wanted a duo that produced more goals and assists than the Grella-Sam combo did. We've got Royer doing his bit on one side, but still looking for the complementary piece on the opposite side that can try and match Royer's offensive production.

Literally this is the only thing i have wanted

#1351103 RB had a discovery claim on Brian Rodriguez

Posted by defendyourself on 08 August 2019 - 06:41 AM

Don't know much about Brian, but I am pretty excited about Simms. Why is everyone assuming Brian will be better? He is 18 year prospect with a lot he needs to prove, not someone Proven like Rossi who was awesome before he even got here.

i think Josh is better than him now probably and fits the desire to help the first team this season.  That being said Brian is probably a better long-term fix since he is a permanent move for LAFC and paying transfer fees makes people happy to show intent.  I'm not sure who is better but hope Denis is right this time.  We probably could have found away to get both and pay down BWP's salary with TAM but thats none of my business.

What the goal of the team should be vs the reality of the situation are two completely separate things.

but its not impossible to do both.  People keep mentioning LAFC but pretend like Diego Rossi doesn't contribute now and have sell on value in future.  The way rules are set up getting someone without sell on value is dumb, missing out on a lot of allocation money that can be recycled into club.

The more I read about this guy I like the signing more.  I'm not a fan of this window because I don't like how long this is taking , don't like that we have an open DP slot and I don't like that we haven't signed another 6 yet.  But as an isolated signing more transfers like this is better

#1349739 Metro - Orlando Game Thread

Posted by defendyourself on 21 July 2019 - 08:46 PM

Some of you guys are way too upset for having just grinded out a win on the road. That is never, ever easy to do in MLS.

Would I have recommended ending the last 15 minutes in a 5-4-1 with Royer as a fullback and BWP as a left midfielder? No, not particularly. But the first half was enough to make up for it.

result is very good and its hard to win on the road.  my biggest issue is just how much easier we made it for Orlando to stream roll us for the last 25 mins with 1) dumb subs 2) and what appears to be some guys either not giving everything, or poor positioning

Why with a team that has struggled passing all year would you take out a midfielder for a forward to protect a lead?  Why for probably last 180 mins we have played Davis and Rza together does every opponent now waltz though our midfield.

The back four, Luis and Royer did very well protecting the lead, absorbing pressure.  I am proud of those guys bringing home the bacon.

#1348708 Metro - Atlanta Game Thread

Posted by defendyourself on 07 July 2019 - 11:03 PM

Actually played pretty well.  Atlanta just really isn't good defensively.  Open space everywhere now.

Duncan was awful... Positioning just brutal.   We have a huge issue at outside back.  Lade, Murillo and Duncan all need to be replaced.  Taxi is the only serviceable one.  The other 3 end up being directly at fault for so many goals this season.

Also hate that their 2nd goal happened because Tarek somehow gives a corner on a ball that should have NEVER been a corner.  Just a bad play that started a series of bad events.

I've learned to like Rza in the front 4.  His flying around and causing defensive issues is more useful there.  He's not going to put up assist numbers or goals, but he causes good things up there.  With our perfect lineup, I'd actually rather him in Muyl's spot.

No idea why Royer came out that game.  Dude's our best player.

I hate Atlanta... Easily my most hated team right now.

if we don't making any major summer signings at full strength may need to go to 3-3-3-1 to get our best players on the field and in positions where they are most dangerous.  We need to keep Royer as close to the goal as possible and I agree the Rza as an advance destroyer seems to where he plays the best this season.  And off the bench I think Omir and Etienne slot into this formation better as well for subs. I was at banter bar and for some reason a ton of Atlanta fans were there. Christ they are so annoying.

I don’t think this feels like anything in the last 5 years. We rarely dictate play at all and under Marsch we almost always did. And Marsch had a roster that was constantly turning over. He was just able to develop guys and constantly back fill. Now it feels like none of the guys we have improve.

i miss those jesse losses where we would dominant play but just fall short compared to this season.  Clunkers away happen sometimes but even at home we get rocked more this season for my liking.  We had a good stretch in May where it looked like we were figuring it out again but we are regressing again.

This is the part of the argument that I think is total BS.  To get those type of players consistently you need to be spending money consistently on transfer fees.  We have spent serious money once in the past 5 years, and it was $6.25m for Kaku.  Once.  The majority of the guys we're bringing in are either via loan or free transfer.   So, unless the budget is magically tripling and unless our academy stops bleeding coaches/personnel, I don't see how anyone can think Ragnick is going to somehow be this savant at player recruitment.
Ragnick's whole allure is a tactical one, and he's only going to be looking at our academy part time.  He's also responsible for Brazil.  Hey, great that maybe they're trying to stop the bleeding on the academy front, it's been a turnstyle down at that level with coaching exits and player recruitment struggles.  Maybe Ragnick can fix that.  But the idea that he's going to be going out and finding all these stud kids and that they're going to come to Metro is ignoring the very clear problem that you need to spend money to get them here in the first place.  And that's a budget problem.
Otherwise, we're gonna keep randomly signing these kids and hoping 1/10 pan out.  And the arena stays empty.

at least on my end the hope is that with him overseeing operation RB would be filling to increase the budget.  They only let Jesse get Kaku after proving his chops for a couple years with results and good signings.  After Andy Ivan signing and Jorgenson I don't think RB global is doing cartwheels over giving us a budget to spend a lot of money/salary without Ralf involved. Even some of the elite younger guys (i.e. Casseres) are not as far along as I thought they would be when we first signed them

Anyone see this garbage?

SuperLiga 2.0

If we ever qualify for this, I hope they send the U-23 team. Not even RBNY II.

We got two real preseason international cups already, thank you very much!

its hilarious that the Dynamo are double dipping in this competition after being in champions league this season.  Obvious money grab that no one wants.  Only issue is that i wish boy city was invited but they can't deal with the scheduling of extra home games with no stadium

Luis can be questionable on crosses/corners and isn't good with his ball distribution. But oh god, is he great on reaction saves and 1v1 situations. Easily MotM today.

the claiming of crosses thing really bothers me, but he's been good as of late
