Speaking of De Avila, just unearthed the following gem, gonna put it here so I don't lose it:
The MetroStars were well represented at the 1998 World Cup draw in Marseille, France, on Thursday, December 4, as coach Carlos Alberto Parreira's Rest of the World team defeated the European squad, 5-2, in an exhibition match played at the Stade de Velodrome. MetroStars forward Antony De Avila scored the game-tying goal and assisted on another in 45 minutes of action for the Rest of the World All-Stars.
De Avila, the MetroStars second all-time leading scorer, started for the Rest of the World squad. The teams were comprised of players from each of the 32 nations that qualified for the 1998 World Cup, and divided into two teams - Europe and the Rest of the World.
De Avila took a perfect pass from Ronaldo in the 17th minute and slipped a low shot past Germany's Andreas Kopke to tie the game, 1-1. "Pitufo" returned the favor in the 22nd minute when he set up Ronaldo's first goal. Ronaldo and Gabriel Batistuta of Argentina each scored two goals in the 5-2 Rest of the World victory.
De Avila was named as a replacement for Carlos Valderrama, who was forced to withdraw from the match for personal reasons. He was substituted at the start of the second half by American Eric Wynalda of the San Jose Clash.
