London Irish will play Saracens in an English Premiership match (actual league match, not a friendly!) on March 12, 2016 at RBA.  Actually sounds pretty awesome!  Just wondering how many people will actually show up for this.

Choice of London Irish should guarantee a decent crowd.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

yes, although whatever percentage of the sports public is like "WTF soccer," times that by 100 for rugby.

It's not an easy game to pick up as a casual observer either.

On the other hand, I played in high school 15 years ago and we were the only public high school team within 100 miles.  Now there are more than a dozen just in CT, so the popularity and visibility are growing.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

If it's cheap, I might go. Not a fan specifically, but it's fun to see new sports. I have to admit though, I have no idea WTF is going on when I watch rugby on TV.

It won't be cheap.  But, much like NFL, novices can follow by watching the ball move up & down the field, and see kick-offs, punts, touchdowns (tries), field goals & points after.

I get the general gist of trying the get the ball to one end or the other....it's everything else. The scrum, what is or isn't allowed in tackling, when and why they decide to kick. it's fun to watch, it just looks like chaos to me.

Twickenham is a nice-looking stadium.

If they wanted to bring over another team that could bring one of the areas other big-ish ethnic groups out, they should've moved the Irish's game against the London Wasps over here.

But seriously, I just saw an ad for the game on lohud.com, which is more advertising than I've seen for any game at Red Bull Arena. They're also charging a fortune, as others have pointed out. It's $50 for 201, $65 for 101.

A team at RBA, maybe?  Or you guys think we're looking at smaller, college stadiums?

Edit:  Numerous rugby blogs confirmed 4 of the teams as San Francisco, Sacramento, Philly and Denver

That wouldn't be the first league, as there currently is one. There was also the Rugby Super League before this.

I plan on going to the match in March. Ended up going to the last Premiership final at Twickenham and saw Saracens beat Bath.

If this league launches a team in the NYC area (specifically RBA), I'm sure I'll be going to a handful of matches.
