He never wanted to stay, he wanted to go to Toronto all this time and lied to the Isles. They wanted to trade him before the deadline and he begged and pleaded with them not to.

He did not want to get traded during the season. If it took stringing the Isles on, not to get bounced around, then he did what he had to do. He did not want to be a bargaining chip. If he gets to walk away without compensation for the Isles, well that is the way free agency works. This move probably cost him $19 Million. I do not wish him ill. He will soon be reminded why many Canadians do not want to play in Toronto or Montreal.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

He could've said trade me to Toronto. This way he gets his wish and the Isles don't lose him for nothing. Would've been a win/win.

Or, the Isles could have traded him to Toronto without his request. It sucks for Isles fans, but hockey is a business.
Perhaps he was waiting for Lou to leave Toronto,

He is Parise/Gomez/Holik x10. Hope he ends up having as much success as all those guys had after leaving Jersey. Guess he couldn't bare being the 3rd best player in the area and 2nd best on his own team (Hall and Barzal).

Maybe he just didn't like uncle Lous outdated approach to the game and bailed. Back when he was said that the team had a completely different management and coaching staff. I don't blame him from getting away from that shitty organization. The team is playing in 2 different arenas this year with Barclays being one with the worst ice in the league that guys complain they get hurt on. He would have been a fool to stay when he had a chance to bail.

Tavares himself said the Barclays ice was better than the ice in Toronto. And the way some Devils fans shit on Lou really bothers me because do you know what the Devils would be today without him? The Nashville Predators. The team has a credible owner, a credible GM and the coach who just won the cup. They aren't this terrible organization they were under Wang anymore.

Tavarisch definitely ran away from Lou.

You can respect Lou for what he did here and still criticize him for how he left this team in shambles.

Also Dr. John McMullen had more to do with the team staying here than anything else, nobody knows exactly how close they came to moving but he used the threat of relocation to get a better deal with the NJSEA. Sure the Cup win may have helped a bit but the NJSEA were getting a ton of the revenue money and McMullen wanted more of a cut of that and most likely used Nashville as a threat to get what he wanted.

He said the ice sucked that game in Toronto cause it was extremely hot out, the Barclays ice has been blamed for actually hurting people cause they don't even have the normal cooling system under the ice cause the whole arena is a joke.

The ice at MSG is worse than Barclays, but because it is "The World's Most Famous Arena" nobody cares. And it is very likely that the team is done there after this season and will be in Nassau full time in 2019-20.

You are correct about McMullin being a hero. He was mocked by Forbes for turning down the Nashville deal, but if the team doesn't win the cup NJSEA may not have caved. Thank God they did.

The Barzilla aka "That Kid Who Just Won the Calder" just unfollowed JT on Twitter. I think I just found my new hockey hero/mancrush.

Staple did an article for The Athletic on the team's reaction to JT leaving. The reaction can be summed up with this tidbit: in a text exchange with a player Staple asked about fans burning their jerseys and the player replied "I can't blame them". OUCH!

In terms of non Sabres hockey mancrushes the Barzilla is #1 and Taylor Hall is #1a. Hall is the reason I got Devils season tickets because I just love watching him play. He is just so great he is worth the price of admission. Same is true for the Barzilla. Thanks Chiarelli!!!!!!

I am a big enough man to admit when I was wrong. SH you were 100% right about Lou, the best thing that could happen to the Isles would be him being declared mentally incompetent, shipped to a nursing home and replaced by Mark Hunter. Thank God I invested in Devils seasons so I can see playoff hockey next season (hey I just got a nice note in the mail from my new Devils rep Bobby Brown. Seems like a real good guy, hope he is as good a rep as Steve Vetirie for RB or Vito Catello (my old Isles rep and the best rep I've ever had from any team in any sport)).

Haha don't like the Matt Martin trade? I told ya Lou lost his marbles years ago. I love and respect him for what he did for the Devils but time passes us all bye eventually and his passed years ago.

The players association also voted on the worst ice in the league and Barclays was 3rd worst, only behind Florida at #1 and Arizona at #2. The gardens ice might be garbage too but it's not as hated as much as the Barclays. They installed the wrong piping for the ice, they used pvc instead of metal so it doesn't get as cold as it should, they probably did it to save money lol

After the clap back at Pajama Boy he posted on Instagram I don't care if he sucks, the team could give MM a DP style lifetime deal and I would be fine with it. It's the other 3 guys who are complete shit they signed that I hate.

I am aware of the reason why the Barclays ice sucks and you can thank carny dipshit Yormark for that. The very good news is that it is very likely that after this season all games will be played at the zombie Coliseum until Belmont.

For my birthday in November I am going to take a trip to Buffalo to see my Sabres play Tampa. Taking MegaBus up and back for $10 each way as the bus station is a short walk to the arena. There's a midnight red eye back to NY so it works perfect. My game ticket was purchased via StubHub for $12 a few days ago. My main goal is to finally get that elusive selfie with Sabretooth.
