In 2021.  Queensboro FC, part owned by David Villa.  To play at a stadium at York College.  Villa says he wants an academy that focuses on Queens born players.

So, some competition for youth players for RBNY and NYCFC, not to mention BW Gottschee, the Cosmos and Met Oval.

This is fun and exciting news.  If it is done right, it can succeed in the shadow of the two MLS sides.

ESPN links never seem to work for me.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

The most interesting thing from that article....

"The new team will also play select home matches at Citi Field, home of MLB's New York Mets."

I can't see them getting a crowd big enough to even warrant turning the lights on at Citi.

How big is the field that York College uses for their soccer teams? i'd assume it's 5k, since that's the minimum for USL 'Ship.

The plan is for Queensboro FC to build a 7500 seat modular stadium at  York College.

that's actually decent. i'd imagine down the road, USL-C will make the minimum stadium capacity 7k.

can you believe that it costs $10m for a USL-C expansion team? what a world.

I thought you meant the pitch dimensions!
YS size is good enough for MLS ...

Same, on weekends it would probably be a quarter of the commute to Harrison for me.

CitiField? Quicker for me to get to Yankee Stadium (25 mins) or RBA (45 mins on weekday nite games)!

Weekday games at RB Arena are great and easy with the WTC path working. Weekends get hairy when Path and subway stoppages can compound for a terrible experience.

So, this USL Championship team is a year delayed but still on track.  They just announced plans to build a 7500 seat modular stadium at York College, and there is a vague statement that they will be building a permanent stadium somewhere in Queens in the future.  They've  got a coach but no players yet.

That could also seat the BoyCity fanbase in a year or 2.
