Apparently there are 3 home games left in the 2008 season, 5 by my count. In any case someone needed to start us thinking about who our POTY is, let's hear what you got.

This thread is only to get you started thinking about who you would vote for. Voting will take place at a later time and place.

Previous Winners

2007 - Donovan
2006 - Cobi
2005 - Herc
2004 - Suarez
2003 - Hartman
2002 - Lalas

There are two way to look at the LARS POTY.
Actually, that’s not accurate; I suppose there are thousands of ways to look at it. But the founding fathers of LARS dwell on two of them. The first view is that we vote for an MVP, someone who played well and did so consistently to improve the team throughout the year. The second is everything pretty much written above, but with the angle of quirk and uniqueness that the Riot Squad bring to our beloved G’s.

There are official team awards and MLS awards given out every year, but nothing ever comes close to what we give. We are LARS, we are 138, and we march to the beat of a different drummer and everything we stand for is everything everyone else can’t deliver. So, as the season gets near a close we need to reach deep into our memory banks and think about who is deserving of our precious award.

What you are about to vote for is something the players cherish and proudly accept as a vote of confidence from us, the real fans. With no further a do, here are the guidelines and things to take into considerations when casting your vote.

1- What player best personifies LARS on and off the pitch?
2- How consistent was such player in recognizing LARS in the stands and otherwise?
3- How much will they appreciate the award?
4- How much did they contribute to the team?
5- How did they step up when needed by both the team and us?

When casting your vote, you will need to submit the following information or your vote will not count. Submissions will be done by email.
Once a vote has been made you cannot go back and change it, so please be very mindful and think very carefully about who will get your vote.

STEVE SAMPSON; STILL THE GREATEST COACH OF THE LA GALAXY. EVER. PERIOD. EXCLAMATION POINT. NUF SAID. JAJAJA!

That's not how we do it 'round here.

I vote for Jair. Honorable mention to Klein/Donovan/Buddle

My friends, it's time for a change. I don't know what that change will look like but we need change. A change from business as usual. Change from the backbiting and backstabbing. Change from the shallow, negligient practices of the past. This vote is about change. What do you expect to come from this decision? I tell you, my friends, you should expect nothing but change. That's what we need. Why put off what you can do today? Fear of change? Make your choice. Make it wisely.

I can empathize with the idea of giving it to Jair. But others have previously suggested just calling the the trophy itself something like the Jair Garcia Memorial Trophy awarded to the LARS Player of the Year. However you word it, that, to me, is a lasting tribute having more permanence and worth for what he gave up than a one time deal.

I think Klein deserves it. He was the most consistent player this year. A total work-horse who never talked any shit. Just came out time and again and kicked ass. They had him playing out of position and he was still kicking ass.

I like that idea. If the name is changed to something like that, then I'm stuck between buddle/donovan. The goal scorers are the only reason we arent completely out of the playoff picture.

Well it sure ain't gonna be Celestine Babayaro.
"Last month I was in the Canary Islands, and I met up with Armada Sur, the supporters group for CD Tenerife. When the subject of MLS comes up one of the first things they ask me about is if I've heard of the Riot Squad and they mention that one of them has a LARS shirt, and describes the gask mask guy logo.

Halfway around the world and I can't get away from you guys?!?!"

VIVA VAGENAS! PETE PETE PETE PETE! I give it to Landon...or Klein. Since Landon looks to be going the way of the do-do bird I say Landon to continue with some "heres a trophy now get the hell out of here tradition."

The way I look at it, Buddle, Donovan, and Beckham are the only guys in the running. They're the only ones that have shown any good consistency. No defender on this team deserves it. I'd consider giving it to McDonald if his next few matches are good.

...ooooh ooooooooh we are the riot squad...
