#1359863 Preseason in Florida and Arizona

Posted by Metrohoboken on Yesterday, 03:12 PM

As much as we bitch about the RBNY coverage... at least the official team twitter had lineups and our scorer. Atlanta's has NOTHING. It's as if the game never happened.

Maybe ATL twitter feed was covering our transfer activity?

well chicharito is off the table.

good player never amazed.

Could we please sign 2 young DPs like everyone else.  please?

apparently 15 teams set their transfer $$$ record this off season.

1 CM would be awesome.

ADD I don't think we need RB starter as I like Duncan and I am not concerned with him.  He had 2 injuries in 2 year so I don't see him as fragile.  1 ACL and 1 hamstring at just the wrong time.  They need someone to be back up or challenge him for that role.

Jared Stroud was a fourth round pick, #83, two years ago, and now he is all-USL and on the first team. Who knows if he'll produce in MLS, but why not draft a few extra players? It's pretty much free, and RBII needs bodies.

Scouting and analytics dont stretch that far- college no 4th bundesliga yes

BREAKING NEWS (for Eleazar): The track jackets now appear to be for sale.

too bad we don't have enough players to fill all these clothing options...........

#1359080 Bobby Edwards from the Northern Irish second division

Posted by Metrohoboken on 13 January 2020 - 12:58 PM

Believe so, their fans are calling him one of the best players they've ever had.

I think he just edged out the guy from Ireland who used to play with me in the Cosmopolitan League....

#1358691 Random tweets about Ivan Cavaleiro, not Pedro Neto

Posted by Metrohoboken on 07 January 2020 - 08:55 AM

its like these are all the guys Hamlett was supposed to sign over the summer and messed up on.  Neto signed with Wolves this year and just started their last three games.  We may have had a chance for him in the summer when he left Braga, now we have no chance. He would have been a good signing though.

agree seems like they are using Summer 2019 list now in Winter 2020 off season.

Or maybe they were on the Winger hit list that got filled by Sims.

where are the 2Bundesliga guys we are all clamoring for?

I'd take Doyle over any GM we've ever had not named Roxburgh or Soler.

His GIF of Tony Sporano as the fanbase is spot on.

He just wrote that he wants to see us zig (not sign anyone else) while everyone zags (signing lots players for lots $$$).

Matt is trolling the MF boards.

I think, right now, there is more tension in the RBNY fanbase than any other in MLS. That's what happens when your all-time leading scorer, your captain and all-time leader in appearances, your starting, World Cup-veteran right back, a Homegrown with a decade's worth of service and another Homegrown who scored a title-clinching goal two years back are all exited in the same offseason.

Ok, so it's an overhaul, then? That must mean lots of new faces!

Except... no. So far it looks like all the replacements will be coming from within. The Red Bulls did sign former USYNT 'keeper Kendall McIntosh, but it's Ryan Meara who'll take over for Luis Robles, and it looks like it'll have to be improvement from guys like Brian WhiteTom BarlowOmir FernandezCristian Casseres Jr. and Kyle Duncan that'll fill the gaps in the post-Bradley Wright-Phillips/Michael Murillo era.

Can you go all-in on internal improvement and win in this era of MLS? Left back Kemar Lawrence doesn't think so – he's asked for a trade, or to be sold.

But, well, it looks like we're about to find out.

And honestly, I kind of want to see it. White and Barlow have produced in their limited MLS minutes; Duncan actually outplayed Murillo last year and won the job before getting injured; Casseres, like Adams, will someday be sold for multiple millions of dollars to a European side. If they can sign Homegrown John Tolkin they will be, once again, officially two-deep at every position (including left back).

Going into the year with only one DP and a bunch of kids who've been brought up through the USL would be a wild zig when everybody else in the league is zagging. Red Bulls fans don't want to hear it – they would love it if the mothership went out and got them an attacker like Nahuel Barrios – but I'm not in that boat. I really want to see this experiment.

#1358516 Leo Lopes?

Posted by Metrohoboken on 03 January 2020 - 08:55 AM

Another little guy?   Planning on Casseres and Davis to be the muscle in the middle of the field?

Yeah ben mines might outweigh this guy but he probably isnt soft if playing in Championship -21 games this year.

Heck I don't mind a small guy big attitude like Felipe or Diego Charra

Anyone on the boards the Milo of lower level English soccer ?

#1358359 Matty Ice was a HUGE swing and a miss

Posted by Metrohoboken on 29 December 2019 - 11:38 AM

FO needs to learn from this.

Lesson is not to sign youngsters to such high price.  Who was so instrumental in his signing?

Lesson is find better prospects.  Don't overpay.

Not all youngsters work out.  Granted big miss in that a US college development player who is 3rd on depth chart plays over him in the playoffs after 6 months development and Kaku was starter at 6M.

Hope he makes progress this year.

FO needs to keep swinging.

Not going to lie. It's looking like they are going to sign one player that may or may not start right away and say they will look in the summer for the missing pieces. I know this team is known for being secret and after #Kakuwatch they want to keep being low profile but the lack of anything is really hard to take.

i think they sign 1 or 2 this winter and then let the Scouts work for 6 months to id new prospects.

- with your profile pic I again think of older Germans/Austrians - I really wish they would  sign Stefan Ilsanker from RBL.  30-31 plays CDM and CB.  Guy knows the system and still is spot starter for #1 team in Bundesliga.  Sell Long to EPL or Bundesliga.

#1357979 RBG strategy/philosophy for NY

Posted by Metrohoboken on 14 December 2019 - 09:35 AM

What is NYRB/RBG strategy for NY?

Wondering about this especially in light of Kemar comments which I see as confirming Sacha comment and what many have said/posted over the years.  I saw the comment as pretty disappointing as it confirms we are not being given $$$ to execute.

No comment on if the people in place can execute (different thread) just on the fact that NYRB seems to not be getting the $$$ level to TRY to execute which I think is BS by RBG.

In light of the various comments and hirings strategy seems to be:

2019 - run it back again with almost same SS winning team and give BWP and Luis one last shot.  No comment on players leaving like Tyler or the coach.

2020 off season

- out with old generation BWP and Luis.

- Bring youth forward.

- only sign players who are <26 (unless it is a vet from RBL/RBS like RZA or Segaya)

- put in place new academy director. develop more players from area and add in players from outside area.  New director has this direct experience and success at Barca AZ academy.  Started

- add more Ralf.  As RBG Global sporting head I think he is now more involved in NYRB development.

- put in place new analytics and scouting personnel.  Just done in last 2 months.

- maybe identify another loanee/development loanee from RBL/RBS other RB network (a la Southhampton/Sims)

It seems like they will:

- maybe acquire a player maybe not during the winter (I'm disppointed to as I want high level AM/8/left winger - Brian Lozano or an age appropriate suggestion from Milo)

- Be more active during summer window

Question for me is will RBG now finally provide more $$$ for this strategy??

They did for RBL/RBS and now RBB.

We know based on comments by Sacha, Kemar others they did not want to in the past.

Will they starting now provide now provide more $$$?

Addition - Yes I think they will start to spend more but not until summer unless they find that magic person who fits the system.

winter - sign young prospects

summer - 6 months analytics and scouting and more Ralf - More $$$ in the summer.

Happy rainy off season Saturday!

Maybe the strategy is to stand pat this window and then with all the Scouting and Analytics additions try (try) to be active in the summer transfer window?

(not saying I support this or its the right strategy or anything else)  just wondering if this ties all the little hints and comments together?

#1357890 Kemar Lawrence wants out

easy solution - Make him Captain - gone in 2021.
