For me it's simple.

Was everyone who knew anything about mls / us saying we were a below average roster?

Before the season we were all confused on how we didn't get a 9 and now that sims is gone another RW?

I don't blame omir for not being Carlos Vela or Ibra. He is being put in a situation to fail. He should be getting spot starts at attacking midfield not being asked to play 9 and win crosses against Kendall fucking Watson.

I'm sorry but to blame the players is just lazy. They're trying, they want to play well and get new contracts or move and double their pay.

A good barometer I always use is if we randomly dissolved tomorrow where would most of our guys be playing. Mls starters? Usl sides?

Look at buckmaster, I was honestly the most vocal person against him last year from day 1 of the mls contract. It's not his fault he is what he is and when he got cut and left no mls offers. We as an organization we're simply ok with playing a USL guy in an away playoff match simple as that.

This team has 2 players who would make the starting line up of the 2015 Red Bulls, who as you know did not win MLS Cup.  Long and Royer.  This team would have been bad in 2010.

Yeah fair enough.

Looking man to man, you're totally correct.

now THIS is a USL quality side.

I'm pretty sure the entire front 4 right now has played together in USL in the last 12 months.

I do not think Armas is a good coach.  But he is closer to an MLS standard coach than this team is to an MLS standard team.

In 2020.

I bet this teams wins mls cup every year up until like 2017.

This team is still staying pat on the mid 2010 success.

Floating in crosses to a 5 6 125 lb omir and 5 10 Royer.

Absolute brainless

I really should not have watched Liverpool vs Chelsea prior to this match...

I watched Luton v  Blackburn earlier and both those teams would beat us by 4/5 easily.

We should have backed a Brinks truck into Mandzukic's garage years ago.

Give me 47-year-old Jan Koller at this point though.

I mean this isn't even difficult to see, give any 12 year old fifa player this roster and they say oh ok I need a ST.

Like this isn't even exciting it's just like basic roster building.

Let's be honest with ourselves. This team cares only about real hardware like the Emirates Cup and the Disney Cup... in a way.

I mean if that's the case shouldn't we be dominating the 'us is a failed state cup'.

Fucking whipping in crosses to Royer and omir.

Insane, you didn't see crosses flying over false 9 Messi's head.

#1367435 Was Armas right to bench Murillo?

Posted by Mibabalou on 18 July 2020 - 07:56 PM

I agree with moving him on after the season but my big issue was why couldnt he sit Murillo down and just be like listen lets bury the hatchet for now and youre going to be the starter in the playoffs and well move you on in the winter.

Murillo is good enough to make it work in Europe and I wouldnt be surprised if he gets a bigger move from Anderlect in a year or two.

If it got so damn bad Murillo was never going to make a 18 then we should have played Muyl at RB for a few weeks before the playoffs. Really I still blame armas for playing a weak USL guy in a playoff game.

I watched the game so I will give a quick write up on everyone.

0-1 loss at Home to a much improved Hartford isnt awful and overall I would say we did everything well except one 30 second play on D and finding our shooting boots. The result wasnt there but I would not panic and I imagine Wolly isnt.

65    Lapsley     GK - 5/10 -  The elephant in the room was his obvious error leading to Hartfords goal but if you took that away he looked good. Came out well and punched a lot, some decent saves. Was awkward whenever he was asked to do a sweeper keeper but I am sure he will get more comfortable with doing that.

72    Rito     RB (Subbed off 67) - 6/10 - I have always been high on Rito and was still upset when we signed Bucky to a 1st team contract cause I thought Riro was better. Coming off a bad ankle injury from last year he looked a tad timid which is understandable but he got forward well with dribbles and played some good balls into the box that went unfinished. The sub had more to do with building up his fitness. Hartford did look to attack the space behind Rito as he got so far forward but im not really sure that is a fault of his just will happen as we ask him to go so far forward.

73    Fala     LB - 7/10 - Now this is a super interesting player. A 4 year ST at Ramapo College who netted 47 goals in his 4 years. Also he is 6 foot 7. He did not look super comfortable in his positioning but he has much better passing and technique than you would think a 6ft 7 guy would have. He looked quick and was an obvious threat in the air. If I was the coach I think you absolutely need to try this guy out in a few positions (CB, LB, CDM, and maybe even ST) I would guess they would be worried this would screw up his development in learning LB but I think CDM is where I would try to play him, but maybe his first touch and football IQ isnt as high as I think.

63    Boateng   CB (Subbed off 86) - 6/10 - Glad he didnt get hurt in a match for I think the first time in 18 months. Jokes aside I think he showed all the things we like in him and possibly all the things we are maybe worried about. He looked fast very fast for a CB and a tidy passer but also showed his positioning isnt perfect he got sealed a lot by a very clever Hartford ST a few times on long balls. I imagine he is CB1 for RB2 this year and he will have all season to improve.

55    Kilwien     CB - 6/10 - Very solid, imo looked the better CB. If you take away the long ball for the goal this back 5 did a great job only 2 shots on target, but did have 1/2 mistakes which better finishing could have been punished. He distributed well, having a left footed LCB is always a plus. Again at 6 5 he will always be useful in the air and like the rest of our team is quick.

66    Sharifi     CDM - 5or6/10 - Our 6th draft pick if 2020, Sharifi did ok. He had 1 or 2 moments of fantastic control and dribbling where he went around the much much more physical Hartford midfield. Again dont want to judge harsh as this would be his 2nd match against grown men. His passing forward wasnt anything great but he did fine. I think there could be some improvement as those flashes show.

51    Zajec ©     CDM - 6/10 - Goes to show how undercut our experience is when Zajec is the captain. He looked the better CM here and did provide a good base for our on the day very wasteful front 4. Good passing but did not try too many real home run balls which again is a rarity in out system, a deep CDM breaking the lines to go right for ST. Holds his own against men and since we have no 1st team guys coming down he will be CDM #1 until some guys come back.

67    Sowe LW (Subbed 45) - 5/10 - Did not have a good match hence the getting hooked at half time. But considering we never scored even after he came off.... He tried to dribble a lot and was overall just slightly long on a lot of touches. His passing is poor and shooting very erratic. His strengths will be speed and dribbling but he never really got it going.

37    Clark CAM (Subbed 67) - 5/10 - Harsh rating and he did look good in flashes but he has 2/3 fantastic chances to score and at sometimes had baffling decision making and or his technique was off. Im not going to pile on some kid who just turned 17 years old and is one of the highest rated American creative talents making his first professional start. There is very obviously a talented player here and if I was coach I would just keep playing him at the 10 until he gets more comfortable and starts to rack up the assist and goals.

70    Dieye RW (Subbed 77) 6/10 - There is a player here, his dribbling ability is a bit odd as it always looks like his touch took him too far away but there is obvious on the ball skill. Again passing and shooting need a lot of work but promising.

39    Elney ST (4/10) - I have never been sold on Elney, he is fast and decently strong and at 6 1 has a lot of those tools but unlike a typical RB poacher his positioning and finishing is poor. Missed a few really easy easy chances. Looking at what we have in this group he is going to be the main man with no 1st team guys coming down so its a huge chance for him but if he keeps this up we will use Matty Ice as soon as we can.

88 Corfe 45‎'‎ LW - 6/10 - Clearly a different type of winger / attacking mid more technique than pace so more Valot-ish. Faster than Valot though. Good dribbling, he hit the post in extra time...

64LaCava 67‎' CAM - 5/10 - Didnt get many chances to create, but didnt make anything happen either.

97 Bounthong 67‎' RB - 6/10 - Serviceable job at RB, I imagine he will be used in a bunch of different positions as a sub. RB/LB/CDM.

96Toure 77‎' -RW - 5/10 - Again didnt get a chance to do much

75 Edelman 86‎' - Attcking mid ish 6/10 - Not even sure he got a touch on the ball, but ran around a bit. And good for him to get to play.

Overall the issues with the roster as in is clearly ST / CM and an attacking mid with a bit of quality. Reality is if say Lema, Mines, Matty Ice all play this team looks way different.

Elney needs to play much better and I think overall this roster could use a more Valot/Beze attacking mid which maybe Corfe is type player rather than more flyers.

Glad to see the kids again and RBA looks in top top form.

If it's this move plus a DP 9 we all love it.

The voices of discontent right now are just so burned from constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop and we get hat DP attacker and we win a cup they lash out at every move that isn't.

In isolation this is a solid move, a guy with possibly a good MLS upside, in a mold we have had success with filling a hole we have.

Issue is nothing is in isolation and we've seen the last year and a half now our best ST is a right winger and we have 2 grind work hard ST now and other teams have zlatan and pavon and that Mexican skc got etc...

Good win, still stand by my take that this roster just isn't good enough.

Need a real top class MLS ST, which tbh isn't really difficult to find.

Gotta put that away.

Great def by Muyl which should have been an assist
