Our defense right now

LB:

Kemar Lawrence

Justin Bilyeu

Fine, no problems here.

CB:

Aurelian Collin

Damien Perrinelle A 33-year-old coming off an injury-plagued season.

Gideon Baah Coming off a shattered leg.

Aaron Long A 24-year-old who has spent virtually his entire pro career in the 3rd division

Hassan Ndam A raw 18-year-old

Jordan Scarlett a Third-Round pick

RB:

Sal Zizzo Is Sal Sizzo

Connor Lade coming off ACL surgery

Ethan Kutler A late second-round pick who has never played outside back.

This is not good. I could at least tolerate an unreliable defense if it was stocked with young talent with high ceilings. But it's not. Our defense is Lawrence and Collin, and then a bunch of guys who are either major injury worries or fringe MLSers. With maybe one wild card in Hassan Ndam.

Also says he's a U20 Cameroon player, they have U20 afcon in Zambia from feb 26th - March 12

Hope they qualify for u20 World Cup in May - June.

So he could be away from us for like 3 months.

Interesting thing: he was listed at age 18 when he trailed in 2015. He is also listed as 18 min the press release today.

Hey, should have posted this here in retrospect:

Good freaking memory.  And the age thing is interesting.  It's tough to know the age stuff with a lot of the Africans.

Hell, I look at Adi with Portland and laugh at the idea that he's supposed to be 26.  Dude looks at least 35.

Hah, quiet time at work and I have a bunch of tabs up.  If I see news I try to throw it here the moment I see it.

As for the the centerback, hard to find much on him...  He's only 18 so have to figure that he's going to start next to Schmoll with NYRB 2.

6'6" Schmoll with 6'4" Ndam...twin towers

Fuck the right wing.

I don't understand your concern.

Are you putting all of our eggs in the SS basket? Is that all you care about?

Sure, maybe we'll have defensive issues if none of these CBs come back from injury or pan out, but this is MLS. All I really care about for 2017 is making the playoffs and having a run at the cup. We can sign 3-4 defenders between now and then if we need to.

It's going to be OK.

yeah, seems fishy to be. but if he cleans out Patrick Mullins or Nick DeLeon at RFK and they're writhing on the ground in pain, worthy acquisition.

I'm not putting "all our eggs" in the SS basket. First of all, yes, another SS would be damn good. Secondly, it's absolutely bizarre to imply that adding defenders later in the year is somehow more conducive to winning MLS Cup. We've seen a million times now that mid-season additions very often have a limited impact. Furthermore, defense in particular is a position that requires significant cohesion and understanding between the four of them plus the goalkeeper.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that adding a bunch of new guys to an unfamiliar team in May-July would be just as effective as having them all together for a training camp/preseason plus a full season?

I'm putting my eggs in the Shield basket, the Open Cup basket and the CCL basket, in addition to the MLS Cup/Playoffs basket. and looking at the defense, i'd be worried as well.

What is the connection with NY RedBulls and all these "youth" Cameroon players? Oyongo, Abang, now 26 year old Ndam.....is Cameroon the only place RedBull has "scouts"?
