Dax is gone and you can't change it. What I am worried about is how the Lloyd and Dax trades, and the banishment of Ali into exile, affects the locker room. I can see a veteran like BWP not liking what he's seen at all.  Sports is a ruthless business, and for U.S. sports with the trade process that's especially so. BWP is a professional and will do his job, but I'm sure seeing how the organization handled Lloyd, Dax, and Ali might get in his head a bit.

Of course it will. You saw BWP already joking around about not wanting to say that he feels like he's getting older because we've seen how the team deals with that. He knows he's one mediocre season away from getting traded.

And regardless of your thoughts on the Dax trade specifically, you've got to believe that the players are rolling their eyes about all of Jesse's "team first" and "we're all in this together" lines.

Frankly, since I am merely a fan and a not a fancy American soccer writer, I'm going to congratulate Wright-Phillips on a well hit goal. If I was an American soccer writer, I'd claim that the recently retired Henry was wearing an invisibility cloak and carried the ball into the net for the obviously unskilled Wright-Phillips.

As long as Sacha and Felipe are there and starting almost every game, the locker room will be on lock.

He's an excellent coach, but a horrible liar.

I'm a "fan" of his and even I admit him claiming not to be almost out the door was lame. I'm glad Dax spoke out since Marsh gave his version of the events in an interview while Curtis currently can't and won't be able to even after he's gone.

Totally. I think there's a pretty good chance BWP is a goner next season if he doesn't score 20 and we miss out on the cup again (or even if we win it). Nature of the business, though, can't complain too much. He'll turn 33 in March 2018.

Part of the difference with BWP right now is there's not a Davis to take his spot.

Let's hope.

Dax also had an interview with Rog Bennett on Men in Blazers before the Jamaica game. He said some similar things although the tone was more phlegmatic.

Really sad to see Dax go, specially if it was in the manner that is being described, but this business is brutal. If this was all Marsh's doing, then he made his bed, now he has to lay on it.

Time will only tell if this was the right move or not, and what repercussions it will have on the rest of the team. But right now is time to concentrate on the busy season ahead and try to make the best with what we have. And to cheer the remaining players n the team. We owe it to them.

Cheers

Didn't Henry retire as NYRB? Plus all other players already cited like Petke, Woly Jolly etc.

Not really a luxury that is possible in a salary cap league.

1 or 2 players to get behind?  Thats why we have ~9 local guys on the roster.  People should be able to get behind a local guy who made good and now plays in the pros.

Don't get me wrong I loved Dax.  Sad to see him go.  Thought we should have found a way to keep him and rotate.

Retiring at the club isnt the only thing. Petke came back for like a year and actually ended up playing most of his career somewhere else. Same goes for Steve Jolley. Also Im not just talking about role players Im talking about true All Star caliber players. Theres no reason why Jozy, Bradley and Howard should be playing on another team. ANd someone like Petke be shipped out 5 years into his tenure here. Now if a player has been here a long time and just refuses to retire despite all signs pointing that way then I can see that but not these guys who are mid career and at the top of their game. Thats all Im saying lets get some continuity and not treat every player like they are merely pawns. Some of them bring more to the club than just what they do on the field.

Being seriously overpaid for what they contribute isn't a terrible reason. Sacha > Bradley, BWP > Jozy, Robles ~ Howard, all at a fraction of the cost. It's a salary cap league.

Now, Giovinco would be a different story.

You're missing the point. It's not about the individual quality of one player vs another, it's about having a "talismanic" player that symbolizes your franchise. Cobi, Cienfuegos, Donovan for LA (yes, he started in SJ). Etcheverry, Moreno, Olsen for the Scum. Armas for Chicago. Mastroeni for Colorado. Beckerman, Rimando for RSL. Davis for Houston. Preki for KC. Kreis for Dallas.

All of our best players are identified with other clubs. Titi is Arsenal. JPA is spread out, but prob not us. Timmy is Everton. Amado is Motagua. Mathis... close call, but he wasn't here long enough.

Dax had a chance to be that player, and look what happened. Same as with Gio 2 decades ago. No, our one talismanic player is Petke... and as much as we love him, he wasn't exactly a superstar... and they traded him away to D.C. and then fired him.

Robles, Sacha, and BWP can rise to that level. Long-term, perhaps Davis or Adams. We'll see.

Having talismanic players is cool. Having titles is cooler. No, we don't have either, but if the people in charge think trading Dax gives us a better chances of a title over the next couple of seasons, they should go for it, right?

Petke, tab ramos, savarese, and parke? These guys were all big MLS players and made there name in ny.

I would even argue that dax will be remembered as a rbny player instead of another club. His best moments have been with this club. The only other club you can try to tag him with is dallas... but he didnt achieve much there. He was too busy fighting with his coach to be the number "10" and was upset that he lost his starting spot to alexander at dallas.
