Soccer just hasn't caught fire yet around here.  It will happen one day, just isn't here yet.

Of course the team wants to sell the seats, just can't pull it off right now.

I thought the "renovations" were for the upper corner sections next to the luxury boxes.

The new stadium honeymoon is over. There's no "big" name on the team to draw the casuals. Mass-Transit access to the stadium isn't any better. Driving in has somehow become worse.....maybe the condos are causing extra traffic? Yaddda, yadda.

I don't really care personally. Tarps look bad. Empty seats look bad.

FO needs to be thankful for the South Ward.
The stadium would be lifeless without us.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

The tarps aren't the issue. The tarps are a symptom of the reality that absolutely no one has conceived of a realistic strategy to increase attendance. The parade of executives who have worked for this team have been completely unable to come up with such a plan. I see no reason to believe that the next guy they bring in will have some ground breaking innovative strategy that never occurred to anyone employed by the club or Red Bull over the last 10 years.

The sad truth is that there may well be no realistic strategy to appreciably improve attendance in the short-term. Having the newest and best stadium in the league didn't make much of a difference. Internationally recognizable star players barely made a difference.  A historic winning team did not make a difference. Having the most exciting prospect ever to come through an American MLS academy didn't matter. Dumping cheap tickets on Stubhub and Seatgeek didn't make a difference.

We were getting decent crowds (even after Henry left) in the 2015 - 2017 years though. Way better than now. Which I don't get.

I think people become interested and go to a bunch of games, but then slowly lose enthusiasm after having to deal with getting to the stadium. After time I bet most people get tired of sitting in traffic or waiting on crowded train platforms.

How about new owners, who re-brand the team and bring a new feeling of excitement to the club?

Oh. Never mind.

the team is awful to watch. why go through the effort of going to the game to watch what is basically a PDL squad?

Most rationale post yet
I do think the stadium access point is a bit of an issue
I dont get why they dont promote parking in Newark more or running busses to take up Path weekend issue.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Who they didn't market to even anywhere remotely to the point that they should have been. The team itself has rarely ever done the proper marketing that it should. A few billboards every year and some red bull trucks driving around is basically all they have ever done.

They didnt get this thing right in the very beginning. There was no intelligent long term or short term plan. Now they are reaping the benefits.

This is it. There are only so many diehards. The average or casual fans get tired of dealing with the commute after a few games or a couple of seasons.

I used to get tickets directly from the website and take part in the promotions they would offer. I worked weekends so I couldn't get season tickets. Then they went the Ticketmaster route and I was definitely out. The added fees added on by Ticketmaster are utterly ridiculous. I remember one event I was attending where all their stupid fees ended up totaling near the face value of the actual event ticket. Ticketmaster combined with raising prices for no reason led me to purchase tickets to very select games either here or on StubHub/Seatgeek/etc. I wish they would go back to selling tickets themselves and start offering promotions/deals and advertise a bit more to get butts in seats. I heard a radio commercial for one of the first times in years promoting Red Bulls tickets on one of the sports stations (ESPN/WFAN). The selling point of the commercial was Zlatan coming to town.

We've heard quotes from players on this team complaining about lack of attendance. They take notice obviously. It shouldn't affect their performance but I mean it probably does. They wouldn't complain about it if they didn't. Good attendance doesn't mean a good team and bad attendance doesn't mean a bad team, but I don't doubt that bad attendance doesn't have some sort of affect on players. Other things definitely matter more, like proper facilities, investment into the team, etc.

the "not trying" comments were in reference to the front office not trying to fill the stadium... as in "putting up the tarps means they've just stopped trying to fill the stadium."   Nothing to do with players not trying
