In Topic: Emil Forsberg lack of synergy

27 March 2024 - 01:41 PM

I cant believe were discussing this. Until it becomes an issue on the pitch, who cares? Its a personal matter.

Ah, a public message from the wife of our top player was posted that he ditched her and his family 3 months ago to play soccer for our team.

I think that definitely is an acceptable topic of discussion.

It ventures into TMZ/tabloid BS, but its not like it was triggered by shitty work from the Sun or paparazzi.... it was an instagram message purposely sent out into the world.

Now, I hope no RB journalists publicly ask Forsberg personal questions, but on a small dedicated message board about Metro, I think we can discuss a public message and not feel like we are prying.

In Topic: Is Vanzeir a bust?

Elf and ivo - the guys just had his best game ever for metro... just be happy. The team won 4-0 and he assisted on every goal.

I have very recently really doubted Vanziers pace and stamina, but he looked great out there on Saturday. That is him "turning it around".

Poking holes in his performance is really negative. The guy had an amazing game. He could have added a goal to his 4 assists, sure. But a Vanzier that is playing like he did on Saturday is a DP. Add those two goals, and consistently over the season, and you are talking MLS MVP over Messi. Thats not a reasonable requirement for me.

Can't be sure if this is sarcastic or serious, but in case it is the latter, players obviously can't catch up to a missed shot unless they're offside or Marvel superheroes.

More likely, if Vanzeir keeps missing easy shots, the thing that happened at 4:20 will start happening more, i.e. people ignoring an open Vanzeir as if he's Barlow. (To be clear, that was a bad decision by Duncan and probably not an intentional consequence of Vanzeir not hitting the target multiple times earlier.)

Serious. The question is shouldnt Vanzier have put one of those straight at the keeper and tested him. I think both and in particular the second shot are fine. Faulting Vanzier for not scoring on that second one is weird. He made the play and was surrounded.

Are you really suggesting that players are not going to pass to Vanzier after a game when he had a team record assists in one game? All because he had two shots that went wide past the far post?

I'm not saying that Amaya or Gjengar would have gotten on the end of them, but they werent planning on running to that post. What I'm saying is that the team is building chemistry. Its ok, at this point of season, that things dont connect. Its ok that Vanzier put two shots wide. I dont fault his play at all on either of those.

Good point
As a defender that was a thing of beauty!!
Give the guy credit
Also interesting to see real depth at RB.
LB Duncan is not bad and way better than last year when he played there.

I like Duncan, and I may be incorrectly grading him, but I always feel he has a larger span of expected play. Like he will make those crushing tackles, and killer crosses, but he'll also be woefully out of position a few times a game. It feels like he has higher upside, and a lower floor than Dylan Nealis.  Dylan is more consistent in his positioning, which allows the rest of the team to play more organized.

Again, I may be very wrong... its just my vibe (without doing any film breakdown).

I think Sandro is doing very well. I was not a huge fan of Struber's tactics, but I think Sando is benefiting for the defensive foundation Struber implemented + the increased chemistry of a largely unchanged group + the expected growth of young players (e.g. Amaya, D Nealis, Stroud...) + actual investiment in the roster (Forsberg, Eile, Gjengar)

Sandro jumped onto this team at just the right time for a real breakout season, and seems to have the right tactics to maybe bring the team to next level.
